Come up with a Dummy Proof Lure
« on: 02/10/14 16:09 UTC »
So, my boss asked me to put together a dummy proof lure that he could use on his managed lake. He wanted something where, when clients come into town, he can take them to his lake and they can pick up the rod and reel with the "dummy proof lure" and catch bass.

So, I took it as a challenge and I came up with the following...

1/4 ounce Jig head with a Vibrating Blade attached and instead of tying a Skirt to it, I attached a White 3.5" Swim Shad

I figure that is about as dummy proof as I can get

What would you tie on the end of those fishing rods to satisfy this order?

Snootie swim jig with the Do-it Swim Stick attached as a trailer (cut to length depending on what size Snootie you are using). The smaller sizes cast nice on a spinning rod/reel (even a spincast!) and the smaller sizes catch a lot of bass. I like the Do-it swim stick as a trailer because it doesn't crowd the hook gap...especially on the small size jigs.

Fish it fast, slow, on the drop..even bounce it along the bottom...you can't fish it wrong!

I'd add a large beetle spin that sim . Just so you could have a blade and quick change on the colors .

X2 on the beetle spin. Don't know if you have any streams to take them to, but when the water hits about 55-60, largemouth pound them. My favorite is with 1/8 black jig, white with red dot body. Retrieved medium fast past cover for spawning bass.

Second is a Do-it 4" Freedom fry in same green pumpkin HDA formula fished wacky.

As Dummy proof as it gets -  I would agree with an appropriately sized beetle spin type lure as well.  The fry family, or small carrots, would work well for the body.

Managed lake?... sounds like it is already pretty close to fool proof... but I think it's hard to beat a swim jig at any depth, or a football/shaky on the bottom.  Less to tangle with these and re-rig as well.

Do-it swim jig. Cast it out, slow roll it back in, easy as it gets. You can imitate a variety of forage depending on skirt and trailer choice. It works in all water temps, and its very weedless and snag resistant. ------Tim.

X2 on the beetle spins and senkos. If I can't get them to bite on anything else, these are my go to baits here in SW Mi. The color is generally white for the beetle and GP or Cinnamon for the senko.
