Skinny dipped tails

These are tails from a 6" skinny carrot dipped a few times to get rid of the blunt end. The blue is X2 midnight blue, if you don't have this color in your collection you need it.

Did you water dip these after the plastic dunk? Its easier to get smoother finished ends using a water dip then a quick roll on a paper towel. Blunt ends are tough to get round though. Great tip on using the tinted dip to add color.

And on that midnight blue X2....I agree 100%. Another is Florida Grape in X2. Lots of doors open with these two colors.

Cool idea on cutting the baits for a smaller profile.

When I cover dip cut ends I very carefully dip just enough of the cut to get a slight bulge of plastic to stick. Then a quick dip to set it and a roll on paper towel to get rid of the water. I'l do that maybe twice if needed to smooth out the cut edge, add the eyes and cover dip. I see on your baits where you are doing a staggered dip. Good job, nice work.

Killer idea, DF.  There are many things You can do with many molds...just think outside the box, as You've done here.

I am well on my way with handpouring, and handpouring a few molds that aren't intended to be handpoured.  I bought a Stainless Steel Drizzle Spoon off of Amazon.com and that has greatly aided in my success (success grows confidence!) of handpouring.  I have a few aluminum injection molds that I open and pour the halves by hand, and that handpoured bait is the entire bait.  OP molds are also a lot easier now.

If You're interested, here's the spoon... http://www.amazon.com/RSVP-DRIZL-Stainless-Steel-Drizzle-Spoon/dp/B002AB0N4U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392312131&sr=8-1&keywords=drizzle+spoon

Awesome Job on those Baits!

I like the color-over-clear concept. I've done it a few times for some personal baits. The blue in DF's baits is a noteworthy blue....very nicely done.

Gary is dead on with the idea that hand pouring opens a lot of doors even when using injection molds. I know Andrew does the carrots with a plate to make leech-like baits and Mo has gone way out in space with his custom conversion. Now DK has helped show how shortening a bait and doing some fancy work can broaden a mold's use even more. DK's work here is as far outside of the box as Mo's creation.

An easy way to take care of the blunt ends is to apply a little heat to them... a torch, heat gun or whatever method is not as important as just getting the plastic to turn "wet" on the end and then let hang down to re-solidify... once you get a handle on this method, the drip will gather at the end and be near perfect every time.
