Caney Creek Glider - New Release
« on: 08/02/11 12:14 UTC »
Smallies beware!

The Caney Creek Glider is a spin on an old bait, the Sting Ray grub.  We've enhanced the body making it more resemble a bait fish, and added a jointed tail that can be used in multiple ways.  When poured in regular the tail has quite a bit of action, when poured in hard it glides more like the original bait.

Here is feedback from one of the testers we sent an  8 pack to:

"I received the grubs Friday, and gave them a good workout this am (Sat) and they really did well on the smallmouth. I landed over 25 fish on them in a couple hours. I switced back and forth between the CC grub and a Sting Ray and the CC grub did a lot better. I think the primary reason was that it is thinner (better baitfish profile) and they really liked that bigger tail...maybe a little too much....the tail was bit off on all the baits you sent!

The bigger tail (vs. a SR) gives it a pretty good glide...which is good for the smallmouth. At first I thought it was too big...but I think I'd vote to leave it alone....or just slightly smaller.

The same kind of thing on the body. At first I thought it was too thin....but after using it...and comparing it against some of the baitfish swimming around...I think it's perfect."

The only real negative feedback was the tails were ultimately pulled off all 8 baits by the 25 fish that were landed.  We considered beefing up the tail, but a 4:1 fish / bait ratio is pretty good by most accounts.  We will conduct a similar test in the future using a medium hard blend and measure the productivity and durability again.

Anyone making these yet? I would like to buy a bag to try out before I buy the mold.

Thanks,
Scott

I can send you a dozen....Wanna trade for something? Do you have any of the small(er) Wutz-it molds? I would like to try some of those before I buy that mold.

It's been a VERY good bait for me...for smallmouth and largemouth. I was the "field tester" and I've been using them against the Sting Ray Grub (a old time favorite!) and there are some advantages to both.

*The Sting Ray is VERY erratic on the retrieve.
*The Sting Ray is very durable.
*There is virtually no tail flap on the Sting Ray...but I suspect that is why it darts around so well.
*The CC Glider has a much smaller (and better) minnow profile on the body
*The CC Glider works better on a smaller hook...so it's going to be a great crappie, white bass bait. It's really effective on the smallmouth!
*While the CC Glider ..."glides" horizontal well (fleeing minnow)...it really does a much better job on the fall...due to the flapping tail.
* The small smallmouth bite the tails off the CC Glider...is that a bad or good thing? Obviously they must like the action of the tail! But you do go through some baits.
* I've had some issues with the Sting Ray mold (from another supplier)...not filling the center cavities. Solved it by not tightening the screw/nuts to tight...but it's a fine line between filling...and flash.
*The CC Glider mold is excellent! 100% fills ever time so far! You can really crank out the baits!
* I molded some CC Gliders in hard CC Plastic and the tail still flaps well...

A buddy and I were fishing the Glider and Sting Ray head to head on a very clear sand pit lake to medium sized bass (to 2.5 lbs) and some jumbo bluegills and crappie and the Glider won by a long shot. Again, the flappin' tail really called them in...and we had better hook up s with the slimmer profile of the Glider. We put them on very light ball head jigs...and 80% of the hits were on the fall...The other 20% were on the first dart off the bottom.

PM me with your address. I'll send you some in silver minnow and black/blue flake.

Thanks for the feedback. I plan to use these drop shoting they look kinda like a Wave Tiki leech from the pics posted on here. I think the glider will be thicker in the body and the tail is bigger then the tiki but that's why I'm looking to test some before getting the mold. I'm sorry to say I don't have too many molds yet just started pouring this year so I have the basics for molds right now no Wutz it's yet.

Big Scott;

Have you tried the 3" Regular Carrot to see how it compared to the Glider?
Those two baits are close. I wonder what the subtle bait differences  would
mean in the catch ratio.  Same color and everything; head to head.

I have not tried the carrot yet I was hoping to get a sample of a couple to see how they work. I fished the glider most of the day on drop shot had a good 20 fish caught most were 1.5 Lb. I found I was getting more bits on the Glider that day then other baits I was fishing like a nose hooked 4" senko on drop shot.

I am just re-starting to pour so my color matching ability is limited.
But;  if you Post a picture of the primary color you are using.  Maybe I of one of the other, more talented members with a 3" carrot mold could come close enough to make a reasonable test; Especially if they had both the 3" regular carrot and the glider.  I only have the 3" Carrot.
( But if you want to buy me the Glider mold I guarantee I will make an honest effort to match your color for a test with baits from both molds  ;D  :'( )
Nice Small Mouth by the way.

I have neither color. All I have are CCM Colors.
Sorry I can't help.  I have a Green that may be close,
but not a brown.
