Do-It Trokar Swim Jig Fish Pictures
« on: 02/21/14 21:23 UTC »
Here are some pics of the fish that have fallen for this awesome bait over the last week.  I added a blade to make it a chatterbait.  I did something that I hadn't done before and that is to use two Duo Lock Snaps instead of split rings.  It gives that bait awesome action much more than split rings.  The snaps are rated at 30 lbs so no worries there.  I landed the 5lber no problem.  The Trokar hooks are as good as advertised.  I really like the orientation of the hook eye on this swim jig.  It makes the conversion to a chatterbait really easy.

Nice looking bait. Never tried the snap instead of the split ring. Might have to give that a go. A lot of the time when I make a jig for a chatter bait I don't use a weed guard. Just seems to get me a better hook up.

Way to go, Steve.  Thinking outside the box.
Until next time.

I really like that snap idea!!!! I love chatterbaits but the split rings impede the action sometimes. I'm making up some of those!

Awesome!!! I made some bladed swim jigs with the same mold but I used a split ring to attach the blade but I now feel great seeing this post and I know they will work once the ice leaves. Nice catch for sure, thanks for posting this!!!!

Great Bait, I like the color and the snap idea. I wonder if the skirt helps? I usually leave the skirt off on my swimbaits.  On both chatterbaits and jigs I fish only the plastic bait. (No skirt)

The snaps really make the action killer on this bait.   The skirt adds color variation and bulk plus a pulsing flow/action in the water.  It really is about the blade because it provides flash, sound, and vibration.   I have been fishing 2-3 ft visibilty in 4-5 ft water with almost no cover.

By the way, it is spring like conditions here in Northern California.   It is gonna be 70 f with a clear sky and slight breeze.  We are going to hit the spawn in March and be done by May.   All of these fish are mid pre spawn.  Very active and strong.

I made up a dozen of these chatter bait blades using BassDetective's idea of using the snap and I'm thinking this may be the tip of 2014!

What's really kind of cool is that you can change the jig you want to use really quickly and they really seem to have better action. Problem is I have to test in the bath tube...I can't find any open water (we have about 4' of ice this year!) to test it in.

Anybody had a chance to give this a test??

Thanks BassDetective!!

I almost feel guilt for the weather we have been having.  It has been good for fishing but not so good for the water table.  Hope things clear up for you soon and that ice moves on so you can terrorize some bass.  This little adaptation has made all the difference for me.  Hope it helps so of you too.  I have been trying to simplify my fishing approach over the past year.  Few rods and reels, fewer bait selections, ect.  One of the elements of this rig is that it gives me crankbait type wiggle is stained water and jig hopping action when I need it all in one bait.  I can also change the blade color or jig as Andrew mentioned in his post.  This presentation has so much wiggle that I haven't even picked up my spinnerbaits yet this year!

The Trokar hooks are as good as advertised.

This is a fact.
