Idea I haven't seen done
« on: 04/27/14 15:33 UTC »
Tried something out today to see if I could get stripes on a bait. I drizzled on color then poured on top of it, then injected the belly color. Turned out pretty neat but I want to see if some of the masters would try this and perfect it and let me know how!!

Here is my very first attempt. I was sort of going for a smallmouth color combo. Not terrible but you can see the cold cracks and it's blotchy. A clear coat will definitely clear up the cracks but I haven't gotten to it yet

Those are real cool, some eyes and a clear dip and they would be perfect.

Nuh, nuh, nuh,nuh......Jer you came up with this and it looks darned good. Now keep working at it and see where it goes. Right now is where I'd get out the junk plastic and practice laying those lines in the cavity before the hand pour. That's all I do until I had them down pat....then start doing some serious colors and as mentioned, eyes.

Thanks guys. And Ctom, I'm definitely going to take that advice. My goal is to get more but thinner stripes, and be able to do it on multiple styles not just the swim shad

Looks good don't think you will get rid of the cold cracks but just dip them in some clearasol and cracks be gone.

Head to Wal-Mart, pick up a breakfast griddle for $25. Bring it in the shop, set it to 250°, lay the mold open on it and do your pours. Once the pours are in, remove the mold, close, clamp and shoot the belly color. Good bye cold cracks.

Please use the proper safety equipment!  Once the baits have cooled enough to remove toss them and the runner/spruce into cold water(away from any liquid plastic). This will keep them from denting/causing defects while curing.
