You do know I was just razzin ya, right J? We have retention ponds everywhere around this city and many have panfish and bass hiding in them. They can get hit pretty hard and over-all size can take a hit but the level of activity is what's fun. There is one on the south end of Rochester that has bass that I'll go pick on early in the morning after the inland bass season opens, but it also has a decent crappie population and a million hybrid sunfish. The bass make it a good frogging lake. The whole thing is maybe an acre and a half with a shoreline that is easy to navigate. I'll park and start casting within thirty feet of that spot and generally walk around the perimeter of the puddle once in about 45 minutes and in that time I catch about 12 bass, none over the 15" mark. Still, those fish are a riot and a really neat way to start out the day.
I can go another direction from town and fish another puddle, this one a flood control reservoir that averages around 6 acres and there I'll have access to northern, crappies, sunfish, bass and perch.....all from shore. Again, this place gets nailed by anglers, but fished with the right stuff and at the right times and some real decent fish can be had while at most any other time its the numbers that are fun.
Fish whenever and where ever the chance comes. As a kid I rode a bike to a gravel quarry about 8 miles from home and fished all day. Its more than once I wished I had that same old gravel pit back to fish today.
