First pours
« on: 08/25/11 14:08 UTC »
So I bought a bunch of used stuff. I ordered a gallon of CC plastic but figured I would practice on the 502 I have.

I tried a 2 part 2 cavity clear plastic mold. A simple 4" drop shot bait.

Put 2 oz 502 in a pyrex and heated 1 min and stirred. Added another minute. Stirred and consistancy looked good. Kind of yellow though. Added a few drops of green and black. Then a little fine red glitter. Color looked nice, so far so good. heated another 30 secs (2 1/2 mins total)

Hand poured the mold and it seemed to flow well. tapped mold and topped it off good.

Heads of finished bait were not filled totaly. Put back in pot and Nuked another 1 min.

Tried again. This time got one good bait and other head was not full.

added the used plastic back to pot and heated another minute. Got glumpy and expanded big time. Guess I burt it.

Any comments on my results?

Thanks again....Bill

Looks like an injection type mold. Did you get a plunger like thing with the stuff you bought?

It should help to get the plastic into the tail just don't use too much pressure or hot plastic will shoot out.

Have never used those molds with the plastic injector but when i saw the video I thought they looked a bit bodgy and possibly more dangerous than a aluminium injector and mold.

I'd bite the bullet and get an injector and mold from jason and not waste to much cash and time on learning with that kind of plastic mold.

The plastic may not be hot enuuf to fill the mold cavity. You could be losing heat from the plastisol when you fill the injector as its a plastic injector it wont hold heat like a ally one would.
Also the plastic mold it self would probably not store heat which can help fill cavities.

Edit: sorry i just read you poured those baits, I'd still geuss its a heat thing

Thanks all. I am not going to worry about it. The molds are from a lot I bought and I am just playing till i get my aluminum mold and CC plastic.

I am learning a bit though.

Careful with those molds and that injector buddy, that set up is a big mistake waiting to happen. I started with that myself. I dont see how Jans hasnt been sued over that set up yet. Just be careful and take your time, and once you move up to aluminum molds and injectors you will never turn back. Just my 2 cents.
