First "real" pour, sort of

I say sort of because the CC plastic is not here yet, so I am practicing with the quart of 502 I have

OK got my 5" aluminum Stick mold today.

Oiled it up with worm oil
Nuked 4 oz 502 for 2 mins
stirred in 3 tbsp Mortens pickling salt, 6 drops electric blue, 3 drops black grape and green glitter.
heated 1 min, stirred well  and poured.



mold filled nicely and all 4 came out nice.

soft yet seem pretty durable

color turned more green than blue. Almost a dark teal. Pretty opaque

They sink VERY slowly, almost suspendss. They seem pretty heavy though.

So....does the LC 035 green glitter bleed?
Should I use even less coloring to get more transparent?
Add more salt to sink faster?

I have found the more salt you add the heavier the bait is. Also more salt will change your shade of color and make the bait harder.

Sometimes when I get blue colors too hot they tend to get a green tint to them. You might cut down on the mic time a little bit and see if that cures your color issue. I think they look pretty good as-is though. Hope this helps.

I forgot about the salt thing. That is real close to the amount I use in carrots and senkos. When you put a hook in the bait it will speed up the sink rate dramatically. If they don't sink fast enough you can use a superline hook to speed the fall rate (heavier wire) without messing up the action. As for the glitter, I have not had bleeding issues with any brand or color.

The purple ones are
1.5 oz 502
.5 oz softener
1 drop violet grape
035 purple glitter
1 heaping tbsp salt

First cavity poured fine (could hear it filling up. Second got a little thick towards the end. Third cavity plastic was getting too thick. First cavity is good. Second has air buble vein by head. Very soft bait

I am pouring as fast as I can. They still dont sink very well.

Learned way less dye works best and shows glitter well. Very happy with color

If it was not for the salt, Im sure they would all be great.

Ok. Just cleaned out the remaining glumpy plastic in the pyrex. Had lots of raw salt in it. I mix about 30 seconds. Is that obviously not long enough?

I heat plastic and softener 1 min. Stir. Heat 30 secs and looks clear and runny. Add color and glitter and mix about 15 secs. Add 1 tbsp salt and mix 15 secs. Nuke 30 secs. Stir 30 secs and pour. Sound reasonable?

Mortens pickling salt is new and I assume dry.

I set my stick bait mold in a bench vice. My mold is open pour by the way. I tend to lean my mold to the side a little so it's not straight up and down. I think this helps keep the air from getting trapped and completely fills the cavity with plastic. The hotter you get your plastic, the faster the salt and glitter will sink. Once your plastic reaches its' temp so the compounds and molecules change and do their thing, I would let it cool to about 300 degrees. The glitter/salt will suspend better after stirring. My mold has 4 cavities, so I stir pour 2, stir, pour 2 more. Sometimes mine is too cool on the second pour and I nuke it for about 10 seconds. I let the plastic set about 3-4 minutes on the first pour because the mold is holding heat. It takes longer for the baits to set up the hotter the mold gets, I have gone as long as 8 minutes before removing the baits. My sticks very rarely get dents in them.

I usually mix 4oz of plastic medium, 1 1/2 to 2 tbs salt, 2 tbs softener. Salt was bought from Lurecraft at the time 1 qt. I bought a digital cooking thermometer from wallyworld. It has a thin metal rod, great for stirring without creating too many bubbles and it getting a temp at the same time.

Poured sticks this morning with 2 tbs of salt...I know I suggested about 300 degrees, but I was having difficulty with it..So here's my opinion again..and if anyone else thinks I'm wrong or has a better idea, well that's what the forum is for...to learn

heat the plastic to the correct temp for the first time CCM is 350 I believe..Pour your baits so it flows smoothly out of the cup into the mold, find the temp YOU like. I like mine where it's cool enough that the glitter/salt suspends a little after stirring, but the plastic is hot enough that it doesn't clog the cavity while pouring... i know that's a generic answer, but everybody's microwave cooks different and you really need to buy some kind of thermometer.



 The ones on the bottom of the pile are just as clear as the ones on top.
