Change Those O-Rings
« on: 06/20/14 19:47 UTC »
My injector was giving me fits, it didn't matter how much I cleaned or oiled it, it was not working smooth. I thought I may have dented it.  The O ring was keeping a good seal so I never thought to change it, but today I swapped out the O-ring with a new one and it made a world of difference, now its super smooth throughout the whole stroke. Maybe everyone knows to do this, but I figured I would share, could save someone some frustration.

Great reminder DF!  Although incredibly simple, it's like having a lawn mower that doesn't work - and finding out it doesn't have any gas in it! Unnnn hunnnnnnn!
Take somebody fishing soon!

It's amazing how the simple things sometimes make all the difference.
Until next time.

Even though WD-40 will clean your injector well, it dries out your o'rings, to the point where they will drag against the wall of the injector. Remove them before spraying wd-40 and wipe down your injector with a small rag and reinstall the o'rings. I've been using this method for about 2 years and do not go through many sets of o'rings.

I use rubbing alcohol to clean my injectors. Then lube with virgin plastic just before heating the injectors.

A little worm oil is what I use to wipe things down. Raw plastic can build up behind the rings if I gets missed while the cleaning is gets wrapped up. The heat from the next few shots can cook the material behind the rings and make issues that can lead to thinking the rings are shot.

Salt in plastic can eat at those rings. Salt won't attack the rubber but micro-particles of salt can get between the rings and injector wall and do the damage similar to what sand-paper might.

Its good thinking to have a spare set of injector rings on hand for each injector and when those get installed new ones should be ordered.
