Fish on!
« on: 06/23/14 11:27 UTC »
Jerry Dean and I hit the open road Saturday in search of some water that didn’t look like chocolate milk and landed somewhere in the hills of western Iowa about 3 hours west of Do-It.  It was our virgin trip out to this body of water and the first time I had stepped foot in Jerry’s new rig.  What started off as a panfish freezer filler trip quickly turned into a hook set fest off a point where we saw fish chasing bait at the surface.  Jerry caught fish on about everything he threw at them but the senko wacky rigged seemed to be the crowd favorite.  Big females sat on the top side of a ledge in 8-11’ that dropped off into an old creek channel and the males cruised up shallow in 3-7’ of water.  We figured we gave the grand tour of Jerry’s new rig to around 18-20 1.5-4lbs bass before we got tired of fighting the wind and 90+ degree air temp.  Water temp was 81 degrees and it took all that I had to keep Jerry from scaring the fish by jumping out of the boat to cool off.  Here are a few pics from the trip!

I thought Jerry was first cousin to Roland Martin's second set-aside first cousin and a half.

Nice pic there. I'm stuck in chocolate milk here. Lots of chocolate milk.

90 degree and 81 degree water.....I'd have been in there cooling down fish or no fish.

Oh good lord, I just found Mrs Qwack having some "alone" time with Kyle's picture  :-* why do my fishing partners all have the curves of a donut? The wife wanted to know how Kyle got to fish with Kenny Chesney? I told her that was Jerry and he looks a hell of a lot worst in person.  ;D
I'm glad the dynamic two got out and caught em. A day on the water like that cures the mind and body.... Good for yawl.

I wasn't talking about you justin. Your a prime example of why have a 6 pack of sexy when you can package it all in a keg! When the wife met you I thought I heard her mumble something about letting you rotate her tires anytime.... Or did drew say that? On second thought it might have been Drew

A day out on the water with Mr. Chesney was just what the doctor ordered indeed.  A guy can't chase walleyes ALL of the time!

Kyle you sure look different without that snow suit in your avatar. Got your summer buzz too, eh?

Tom, after the winter we had I thought I'd be wearing that snow suit into June, but we've been blessed with some great weather finally, minus the 8" of rain we had last week!

I don't think I have ever seen such messed up weather. Of course where you're at in Iowa you share the same weather anomalies as we do.....don't like the weather? Wait ten minutes, it'll change.

Don't talk to me about your weather.  I'm still getting over our Get Together in January.  It was 72° when I left Sacramento that day. When I stepped off the plane in Rochester Minnesota it was -14°. I felt like I was flash frozen. I was lucky in that I saved my fingertips, toes, and nose.  My ass wasn't quite as lucky because it froze off.

I'm thinking another Get Together is in order.  Maybe several days, on a lake, in another state, with fishing rods being mandatory.  Missouri in the spring or fall sounds good.

If there's any interest, perhaps we can start a new thread and start talking about it.
Until next time.

I like the idea, but does Missouri have any fish?  ;D

Missouri has Mo. And if he keeps up with his recent shenanigans the state will be a cinder soon. Missiouri touts itself as the "show-me" state, but what they don't tell you is that the show-me is generally followed by how to get the hell out of this state. I-35, I-44, I-70 and handful of other major highways are all testament to this because the out going travel lanes are always busier than incoming traffic lanes.

We need the Do-It get-together in Iowa at Do-It headquarters where things stay sane....and real close to that little bar/café where we had lunch. That food was primo.

Yes, That was a great get together. Maybe do-it could have some sample molds of future baits for us to play with!
