Question about names
« on: 06/25/14 08:49 UTC »
Hey y'all,

New member here! I've been reading the forum for around a month now.

I had a quick question about names. If I understand correctly, ONLY those made by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits can be called Sencos, correct? Therefore any other Senko style bait, wether made with the Do-It mold or other brands can NOT be referred to as Senko per trademarking..

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

-Adam

That is correct. Senko is a trademarked and cannot be used.

I believe most people call this type of bait a "stick bait".

And welcome to the Forum!

Thanks Andy!

I've been in conversation with a gentleman about different styles and he mentioned how he has a new line of Senkos coming, I tried telling him about the trademark but he didn't seem to care

Andrew is correct.  It is a Senko mold, but anything that is produced with it or any other molds cannot be called a Senko.

Depth charge is a good name that I use and seeing how hardly any one lives right next to each other I think it could be used with out any conflict.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

It is similar to "Band-aid"

Band-aid is a brand name for a bandage. When someone says, "get me a band aid" they are meaning get me a bandage.

Same for Kleenex which is a brand name for a generic tissue.

Good point, Bill.  Time and usage will often denigrate a brand name.  I don't think "Senko" is there yet, but ask me again in ten years.  That's assuming I'm still around in ten years, but that's another story.
Until next time.

Denny
