Full Day of Fishing
« on: 07/14/14 14:46 UTC »
Saturday morning a couple friends and myself went out for the inaugural run of my new toy in East Matagorda Bay.  One of my friends fancy's himself a photographer since hes a graphic design artist and captured the trip on a combination of his GoPro camera and cell phone.

Here is us crossing the bay with the full moon in the backgroung

Heres me with the sun just starting to come up over the horizon. He just missed me having the rod bent over landing my first trout of the day.

Heres another friend wading into the sun as its just starting rise

Heres my new toy.  Dargel 250 HDX with a Yamaha 250 SHO on it.  This thing is a monster and rides like a Cadillac.

Heres another pic of the boat with us wading in the background.  Im the tiny spec in the distance.

Here is the end result of that particular wade.  I ended up with 6 fish in about an hour.  5 trout, 3 being over 22" and 1 red at 22".  The little guys are on the backside of the stinger and are covered up by their larger cousins.  Caught all of them on a Clown Super Spook.  They also managed to knock every bit of paint off this sucker except for the very top.  These puppies were hitting like freight trains.

This wasn't the end of the trip.  We managed to pick up a few more drifting around before we headed in.  Later in the afternoon we summoned our inner redneck and went juggin for catfish back on the ranch.  We didn't get into any cats but managed to catch 5  alligator gar (which my rancher loves and was happy to take) with the biggest one being about 4 ft. This one was actually shot with fishing bow.  I didn't know how to post a video of it on here. Once again it was captured on the GoPro.

I took this pick of an attempted shot on my phone.  The guy with the bow is the photographer from the previous pics and the guy in the green is the one who shot the gar.  This photo was a miss unfortunately.

We rounded out the day/night by setting up the lights and sticking a few more trout.

Looks like a fun day! How do you like to cook those trout and redfish?

Im probably one of the few that prefers baked fish over frying it.  I cook the reds on the half shell and just fillet out the trout.
Lightly covered in Italian dressing, dusted with Tonys and Garlic powder to taste. I also melt about a tablespoon of butter and pour over all the fish im cooking and squirt a little freshly squeezed lemon on top.  Over at 350 and bake for about 20min or until they are done.  Depends on how fat the fish are.

Those pictures remind me of seeing people wading with their dogs on a sand beach on the Wisconsin coat of Lake Superior near Cornucopia.
