Goby Blades
« on: 09/21/14 15:29 UTC »
Here are two goby blades I have been playing with for a year or so and they are both working great.  Gobies have become a prime food source for Browns, Lakers, Smallmouth, and Walleyes on the Great Lakes.  Gobies sit on the bottom and "hop" from spot to spot.  The blade is a perfect imitation.  These have both preformed very well.  The Erie looks more realistic, but the Stand-up makes it easy for them to pick the bait off the bottom.  For those of you not familiar with gobies, they have that weird irregular shaped spot near their dorsal.  That's air brushed on.  These would also be a good imitation for deep water Sculpin.

To lessen snags and to be able to let a bait sit on the bottom, I have reduced to one hook.  It hasn't seemed to reduce hooking abilities at all.  They engulf it.  Most hits come on the fall, but some come as it is resting still on the bottom.

Partycrasher Awseome looking Goby Bait. That's whats fun about  making baits your always looking to do something a little different that no one has. Is the second pic the one you settled on for the blade position.  The first has a minnow head shape  both look like they would do the job. Ha are you still getting clean fish down there or are they turned  dark yet. 8) 8)
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

Both designs work well.  I think the first one with the Erie head looks more realistic so I tend to like it more for cosmetic reasons.  The second one is probably the winner on functionality reasons.  I've had that one picked up while sitting on the bottom more frequently probably because it is sticking up and more visible.  Although I have no proof that it actually stands up every time.  It did in my pool while I was testing it.  I would say that the stand up design is less prone to snags with the hook up off the bottom.

Regarding the Salmon run, they have really slowed down and haven't seen any clean silver ones for a couple weeks.  Caught none this weekend.  All Browns.  Its a strange year!!!

On the second one (without a rear hook) I'm thinking about adding a small willow blade for more flash.

Do these vibrate like the original blades?
