This week has been great, on Monday we got on an extremely good crankbait bite but then came yesterday, no so good. Monday the water temp was 57 degrees in the afternnon and then Tuesday the air temps were up to 78 degrees, nice weather and the lows for the night were in the mid 50s, this pushed the water temp up to 62 degrees on Wednesday but then a cold front came through Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, the air temp was in the 40s and the water temp fell to the low 50s, tough fishing was an understatement. There was a silver cloud to this, dispite tough conditions I did manage to find a pattern and a bait the fish would hit, a jerkbait , and it had to be in small protected pockets with a pool of slack water 5' deep or more with current close by. Well my buddy was catching fish on his jerkbait, a LC Pointer 100, he changed up colors a lot but me, well I had the most fish and lunker, a decent 18.5" 3lb. 5oz. smallmouth (which doesn't look that big with my fat a$$ holding it) all on a jerkbait given to me by the one and only MO Quack!!! The bait was his design that I really liked, it is the Copper Crawgill, a really cool looking bait that I was finally able to use a jerkbaits are now starting to get going but this pattern was the winner by a mile, I was even getting bites in the same water right behind my buddy's Pointer. Thanks MO Quack, the copper crawgill is a killer pattern!!!!
