MO Quack's design is the BOMB!!!
« on: 10/31/14 08:03 UTC »
This week has been great, on Monday we got on an extremely good crankbait bite but then came yesterday, no so good. Monday the water temp was 57 degrees in the afternnon and then Tuesday the air temps were up to 78 degrees, nice weather and the lows for the night were in the mid 50s, this pushed the water temp up to 62 degrees on Wednesday but then a cold front came through Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, the air temp was in the 40s and the water temp fell to the low 50s, tough fishing was an understatement. There was a silver cloud to this, dispite tough conditions I did manage to find a pattern and a bait the fish would hit, a jerkbait , and it had to be in small protected pockets with a pool of slack water 5' deep or more with current close by. Well my buddy was catching fish on his jerkbait, a LC Pointer 100, he changed up colors a lot but me, well I had the most fish and lunker, a decent 18.5" 3lb. 5oz. smallmouth (which doesn't look that big with my fat a$$ holding it) all on a jerkbait given to me by the one and only MO Quack!!! The bait was his design that I really liked, it is the Copper Crawgill, a really cool looking bait that I was finally able to use a jerkbaits are now starting to get going but this pattern was the winner by a mile, I was even getting bites in the same water right behind my buddy's Pointer. Thanks MO Quack, the copper crawgill is a killer pattern!!!!

Would love to see a picture of the copper crawgill. Next would be figuring out how to make a plastic craw with that color.

40 degrees? What I'd give for 40 today. Its still not hood weather yet, even at 20 degrees.

Nice fish though Smalljaw. That body of water sure looks pretty. The only thing with leaves on it anymore up here is my lawn because the neighbors have failed to rake up theirs. And green. I'm envious.

Thanks guys, the water you see is the Susquehanna river, on Monday we had an incredible day with crankbaits and the way the weather has been, this was the coldest it has been since last spring. Ctom, the weather here is funny, the last few years the leaves stay green for a long time and then all of a sudden you'll get beautiful color for a week and then they fall off, we used to have a solid month to month and a half of color but it goes from the 70s to the 40s to the 30s so quick it feels like summer and winter with no spring and fall. As long as the weather stays in the upper 40s to low 50s the jerkbait bite should stick around for a bit but the last two seasons I missed it in the fall because the window got really small and in a matter of two weeks it got cold to the point hair jigs became the major player. Musky Gary, there should be a picture of it somewhere on here in the painting and finishing section but if it isn't I'll take a picture of it, I actually took it off my rod and put it in my jerkbait box so nobody at the ramp would see what was on my rod, I don't need locals finding that pattern.

Whew....I mis-read that as LOCOs and then thought "and you're giving the picture to Gary?" Then I re-read the statement and caught my reading error. Really...your secret is safe with Musky. I don't think anyone here has heard of him fishing let alone catch a fish. lol Right Gary? lol How do ya like me now?

Once in a while I catch fish...but only in Indiana! Usually I get frustrated, give up, and go make more baits.  Ps.. I have a lot of baits.

I fished Clear Lake the last couple days.  It was less than stellar fishing, but I did snag a 6# largemouth on a LV-500.  I literally snagged it by the tail, but let's keep that to ourselves.  Also did OK on Lamar's Dirty Sanchezish  Senko laminate.
Until next time.

See I told you that color works. Don't know why or what it even looks like but it works. I've caught a lot of good fish with it.
