Japanese Bluegill

Here's a very close copy of Zoom's retired Japanese Bluegill color. I found this color a while back and liked it. The big difference between this and the original is that the turquoise glitter in this one is string glitter, not hex. For some reason this smoke bait just hangs in my mind. I like it.

 

The recipe is pretty basic. Enough black to make a medium light smoke, some stabilizer, gold and black .015 glitter and turquoise glitter to taste. I added just a hair of turquoise hi lite to this too.

Nice. That is a good fish catching color for me. I add a lil 015 orange too

This smoke-bluegill color really wears on you after a while...in a good way. I've shot it in several baits now and in each case I am amazed at how sweet the color is. I may try some shots laying this bluegill over a semi-pearl belly or the silver pearl I like so well.

That is very similar to a color from Bitter Baits that I love, bluegill shad.  That color works great in swimbaits and frogs when the fish are eating shad.  In the Bitters it seems like they somehow shoot the color with much more glitter in the back than the  belly.  Any idea how they achieve that? Just wondering even though Id be perfectly happy with a bait like yours.  Also what is the length of that bait and where did you get the mold?

Fat....you could achieve the glitter heavy on one side issue by hand pouring 1/2 of the mold with a heavier glittered plastic and then shooting the close mold with the same color but less glitter.

Their bait is in the mold upside down and the glitter falls towards the back prior to the cool. You can see this with many molds that orient the bait sideways. Shoot it real hot and with plenty of flake...The bait will have far more glitter on the side that is oriented downwards. Just gravity doing it's thing...
