Different Blending Blocks
« on: 09/23/11 06:53 UTC »
I see the discussion down below on Basstackle.com's blending block and Im wondering which is the best choice? Bear makes a blending block and Lurecraft has one for sale also (I think its Dels) wondering how they all compare and which one you like best. I have never poured laminates but want to try. I only make baits for myself (don't sell) so it will be a small quanity. :-X

Listen to Ghostbaits and Jason; They know what they are doing.  I was experimenting trying to get a set up that I could shoot "cold".  The CCM injectors will shoot cold if you completely fill them with 350 degree plastic and don't wait long.  I was trying to see if laminates could be done the same way.  The twinjector locking the plungers together does make it much easier.
The thickness of the Basstackle injector walls makes a "cold injector" laminate much more difficult.  But: once the Twinjector and molds are at "working" temperature and you have some experience ( still working on that ) injecting laminates is very smooth. Once everything is "warm", getting the two plastics at the right temp becomes the largest problem for me.
A helpful hint - the blending block gets HOT .

I really only warm my blending block slightly. I rest it on my mic while heating plastic and it warms. I never warm my injectors. Never have an issue with the laminates but I have been using it now non-stop for a good long time. Just like everything else, the more you use it, the better you will get.

The big deal with the others is that the injectors are not connected so you can put uneven pressure on one injector or the other injector and also you ahve to manage both injectors and the blending block. What a PITA to move from mold to mold!!! You need lots of practice and patience....

Good luck with whatever you choose and I look forward to seeing those laminate baits!!
