2014 Post of the Year Nominations
« on: 12/18/14 17:54 UTC »
There is a wealth of wonderful things that happen here every day.  2014 is coming to a close and we feel we would like to reward a particular forum member for providing some of the solid, informative and/or entertaining content that makes this place go 'round.

From now until the end of the year, Dec. 31, 2014 12:OO AM, we will be accepting your nominations for a Forum Post of the Year award that we, the forum members, will vote on during the first week or so of January.  The winner will be awarded a very special prize to be named later.

Please list your nominations here in this thread along with a link to the original post for reference.  I will start a new thread for the voting process once the nomination process is complete.  The nominations can be from any area of the forum about any topic at all.  Let us know why you liked it so much and help sell it to the other members as the clear winner.

The first post that popped into my head was this post by partycrasher http://custombaits.com/index.php?topic=6087.msg44123#msg44123  .
Partycrasher had quite a few great posts this year, Ultra Blades, Blade/Carrot Hybrid, Goby Blades, but my favorite was his Northern WI trip post, great pics of family and fish and baits. I learned about the "goose turd" and how to fish it, there was even some safety talk mixed in.

Ctom  has my vote. The post's are to many to list. Here are just A few Recipe's, tips and tricks,  Tom and Carol on there trips. I can't even do justice in word to what he brings to the forum. The first thing I do in the AM and the last thing I do in the PM is done on this forum you can always get a laugh.  8)
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

Well now we've got a start.  I'll have to agree partycrasher probably has half of the top ten and a number of ctom's posts could round out the rest.

I however, am going to nominate this relatively recent post from Denny.  If you haven't read it you should.  There are no photos and there is absolutely no reason for them.  It's just a simple, well written, brutally detailed, humorous and profound account of an honored annual fishing tradition, all summed up by a paragraph or two that bring it together to remind us all that it's not really about us or the fish.  Thank you Denny.

X2 on Ctom way to many good posts towards  - plastics, powder painting and mixing, modifying molds and sharing out what he does.  Just when you think you've done it or have down pat he gives you a new and easier way.

We will hold a vote among forum members after the nomination process is complete.  Take a look around in some of this past years posts.  Maybe you'll find something you had forgotten about or something you just thought was kinda cool.  It's fun to reminisce even if you don't want to necessarily nominate it for an award.

I did run across that post while I was lookin' around Mr. Qwack.  That was nearly as painful the second time around.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.  That post had me in tears all over again.  What a bunch of maroons...

That should receive some sort of honorable mention at least.   :)

I have been reviewing this year's posts with the goal to pick one to nominate for The Top Post Of Year, and just can not narrow it down.

Denny- the way you tell a story is undeniably profound.    Now that you are retired and have more time,  I hope we will read more of them. Oh wait, you were a lawyer so you are probably busier now that you are retired.
ctom- I love your food\recipes posts.  (I am a girl that loves to cook)
MoQwack- you keep me smiling and laughing out loud on occasion.  Your attitude and outlook on life you share is top notch.
Tom1441- I love the works of art you bring to us
Cannibal-Although you don't post much, the thread you started titled "Just saying thanks" is my sentimental favorite for obvious reasons.
TommySkarlis-your insight on successful fishing techniques is valuable to all.  I am still waiting for "my turn" in the boat
AndrewLamberson-you are  our resident brainiac and member in charge of thermometer sales

So I will continue to reminisce and peruse this year's post before I make my final nomination.... due next Wednesday.

I first started this to just say I make my own baits. It was just a cool thing that I didn't know anyone else who did it.
The first time I took out my baits, I absolutely slayed the bass while my partners just watched in awe. They were some goofey colors but they worked when others didn't and it just made something click inside my brain. This is something I'm beginning to love and it is a good way to show some skills in a positive way.  Not to mention, this forum ha really got me that much more into it. All of the help an a sense of community, if not family, is just a cherry on the cake to me. I just want to thank everyone, really. It's great.
