Essential Senko
« on: 12/20/14 18:56 UTC »
My Essential Series Senko mold came today and I couldn't wait to shoot it. This was my first time using a new microwave and lets just say its a good thing the essential plastic is forgiving, the first heating I hit 385+ and I was sure I messed up my whole batch of pearl white but it looked great. The mold shoots super easy and makes real nice baits. They do have a texture, but I don't see this being a deal breaker, for the price you can't  beat it.

In this photo you can see the texture, it doesn't make the bait dull, it just has a crinkle finish.

Nice work DF, those look very good.

I'm beginning to like the matte finish you get from an Essential Series mold vs. the ultra smooth and shiny finish from a CNC mold, especially with certain baits.  Each has it's strong points and both have their place I suppose.

Lamar, I put a piece of foil between the mold halves to split the baits.

And it worked very nicely too, good job.

Like it was mentioned about the Feedback at iCast, the texture is actually an improvement on some baits.  The Senko is One Such bait.  The Slim Daddy would be another...and the Toad...and the Mud Bug...I can think of a bunch.  I can also think of some Sand Cast Lead Molds that would be BANGIN' as a CNC mold.

Anyway...

I see the texturing as another option. In no way do I see it in any negative light. The Senko in the picture is proof. At the get together last January we saw the Senko in the essential mold in its infancy and even then the baits were nice looking. With the hi lites, glitters and pearls available today that texture just equates to more surfaces to reflect light.

It might just boil down to how they fish.
Until next time.

Do you get a heaver foil ? Seems like regular foil would tear to easy. I have a twin injector but it will blend the colors some. If you want it with a clean line like yours then you need some kind of laminate plate.

Here's a link to a couple ways of making a laminate plate with materials from Hobby Lobby:

It really works nice with stick baits...you get 2x the output of halves!

I've cut aluminum coke cans to fit molds for lami plates.  Works well enough.  In most cases I prefer the blended look of the twinjector, it looks more natural to me.  Still need to pick one up some day.
