Plastic peeling apart
« on: 12/22/14 22:13 UTC »
Hello,

I have a swim bait mold and I hand pour the belly and then inject the rest. A problem I am having is that on the finished product you can basically peel the belly apart from the rest. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?

Thank You

Cold cracks.. the belly is cooling too much before you inject the top color..  Make sure your mold is nice and warm and try to work quick and safe.   they other thing you can do is dip your swims in clear plastic which will seal them.....

That is what I thought it was but I wasn't sure. Thank You for the reply. When dipping do you just heat the plastic up to the same temp as with injecting?

Yes. Use a lot heat stabilizer. I normally make all my baits then heat the plastic so I can dip the baits one at a time real fast. After each dip I drop them into a bucket of water to set the plastic.

On the de-lamination issue; Make sure the first pour is clean and heat the second plastic to 350 degrees.  This will almost always provide a good bond.

Are you hand pouring a pile of the bottoms and going back later to slip them in the mold for injection? If so they may exude some oil that will really hinder a good bond between the two colors. The injection color should get a liberal dose of stabilizer and have the temp booted up to around 340-350 or even higher too.
