Not to oppose here, but my scent absorbs within days or weeks...even a heavy dose in the bag goes dry before long. I've noticed the scent staying on my baits after mAny casts and several fish. I've been offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and fishing FLAT on the bottom (not slightly off bottom) and had fish eat my plastic, in the middle of the night. That's Scent Aquisition, IMO. The 1st time this happened offshore, I wasn't but several miles out and the water was a little muddy. Flat on bottom, dark, murky...AND with a straight-tailed bait. That leaves only one factor, outside of vision. I can't remember what color that Carrot was, though.
Also, when I scent on the heavy side, the bag has scent on its entire interior, including along the zipper. Once the baits absorb the scent that the baits can "reach", the baits end up dry but there's still scent oil along the outer perimeter of the bags interior, including along the zipper, so clearly the scent hasn't escaped or evaporated by ventilation through the zipper or leached out of the bag itself. To me, that kind of narrows it down.
