Adding Hardener Question
« on: 02/07/15 15:20 UTC »
I normally buy medium plastic and I have a guy that wants some baits more firmer than medium.  I have been using 40 drops of hardener per 1 cup of plastic, but it doesn't seem to be changing enough.  What would anyone recommend besides buying harder plastic since I do not normally pour harder plastic baits?

Guess I should have thought that.  Thanks BareKnuckleJigs

Yes Sir.  You already know, but I want to say it anyway for the sake of discussion...stir/shake Hardener very well.  It's PVC-concentrated so it will settle with the best of 'em.

I believe different brands of Hardener will likely vary, but off the top of my head, I'd add 1.5 ounces (3 TBSP) Hardener to 12 ounces of Regular to get something like the average Hard.  That ratio would be a squirt over 10%, which I'm applying to the assumption that You're using a Hardener that is easily shaken and poured like standard plastisol.  There ARE very dense Hardeners.  If You're using one of these thick, dense Hardeners, I'd start with 1 TBSP (0.5 oz.) to 12 ounces of Regular and go from there.

Although I've never used Do-Its Hardener, I'm guessing it's about the consistency of standard Plastisol, similar to Chocolate Milk.  If so, that's about the standard.  The other stuff (I have a 5-gallon bucket of it 5' from me) is very dense and potent...thick like warm Peanut Butter but stretchy...serious...I love it.  Your Do-It Hardener, I'd run with the 10%-or-so Ratio, and see...but that's just my $0.02.

I agree, 1 part hardener to 10 parts plastisol is a good place to start.
