smoke/firecracker
« on: 02/17/15 17:00 UTC »
Here's an interesting combination. This is a thin smoke made with X2 black and Essential plastic softened by about 8%, 4 ounces to which the red, blue and silver .015 flake is added in equal amounts to taste. For a little character the smoke got just a tap of blue hi lite. I've added a hot pink X2 tail that has some blue hi lite added to it and the chartreuse X2 tails that also have some blue hi lite added. All colors have the uv powder added.

The 1 1/2" Thump-It wears these color in style. The picture was just taken outdoors as the sun was getting low in the west but the gist of the colors and the bait is very easily seen.

Not a pet yet. I tried the combination in this bait to see what it looked like and knowing what colors work well in specific light conditions I see this as good for low light. I'd bet money on it.

I'll add this too Gary....in another small paddletail mold [2"] I made some up in a similar smoke color but with different glitters and had some real decent success with the colors when light conditions were less than bright. In clearer water and/or on brighter days other colors did way better than the smoke. But the smoke has its place. The firecracker glitter color combination makes a real nice looking bait and that's why I shot this one. Purplecracker is another sweet color but a little more complex and has way more glitter in it.

Funny you should mention that. Here's a unique way to fish a bait.

You're looking at a full string of an ice bait that I make lots of. A friend of mine stopped by late in the winter last year while I was shooting a bunch of these in glow colors for a bait shop. My buddy asked about doing a few strings in solid black so I made him up 5 while he was standing around. Actually I got the plastic heated up and let him shoot his own....thought that was pretty darned neat. I was going to trim the baits and bag them up and he said, "No, leave them just like that. I want to hang these as they sit on a hook with a worm weight and try bass with them like that". Along about mid-June he was back and ordered sixfty strings of the baits, 1/3 in black, 1/3 in blue, and the remainder in watermelon/red flake. The guys catches boocoo bass with them. He just contacted me the other day about getting another order. There's probably more to using the sprue running than people give credit for.
