Just a little fun
« on: 03/16/15 19:59 UTC »
Had some leftover chartreuse pepper laying around after making some craws for a friend so I decided why not add some lime green and make some dirty sanchez?  Added some green pumpkin green flake I had laying around for the other side for this version.  The swim baits were just something I was trying out.  Just some black flake, silver holo and some blue hi lite.

I really like those in the third picture. They look like walleye food big time.

Ditto what Tom said. Those look great. I was going to try to make some clear baits along those lines today but life got in the way as well as a few more days this week. Figures, the river opened up enough to fish today.

Great bait's like the lam one and the paddle tail bait.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

I like that top bait. A little more white in the bottom half then I do but I like it. I noticed you put green flake in the top color. I might try that. I make some with purple flake, it kind of gives it a new look. In the lighter side try some purple hi-lites. If you take a live craw and look at it's belly it has that little bit of shine to it that the purple hi-lite will give you.

I agree, as the shad-tails are really working for me this year... I'm guessing it is because of all the grass coming down the river and maybe the ribbon tails "sound" like grass to the fish?  Whatever the reason, the Smokin' Shad and (depending on the night) the Thump Grub are out-catching my preferred Flippin' Zip on a margin of about 10 to 1... I think the F'Z will forever be my favorite for walleyes, but I enjoy flexing the fibers so much that I just have to go with what is getting me the most bites.

You all might as well be talking Chinese talking about walleye fishing haha. No walleye to be found down here where I'm at unfortunately. I hear they're great eating!

bass, Given a choice, I'd take Perch and gills before walleye but all three are all excellent table fare. Whose mold is that ?

What size Smokin Shad are you using efish ?  Paddle tail baits work good here when the water is on the clearer side but not so much when the water starts to dirty up from rain and snow melt.

It's a bass tackle swim ripper mold.  It's the 5" version.  Only fish I put on the dinner table are crappie and catfish the bass I throw back.

Walleyes are over-rated table fare in my opinion. Sauger eat much better and perch are superb. Crappies and sunfish are right up at the top of my menu preference though for the white-meated fresh-water fish. Salmon and Lake Trout are right up there for fish with red meat.

While we were visiting Chinatown in Honolulu a while ago I bought a pound of salted, dried fish that was something else. When I start getting into the lakers and salmon I have every intention of trying a recipe for a similar finished product I found. The fish I bought was salted heavily and simply dried. I'm planning to salt some laker strips, give them a short smoke and then finish them in the dehydrator.

The green baits shown here probably won't go very far in getting the walleyes, sauger, perch, crappies or sunfish though. lol Those clear paddletails certainly will though.

I agree on the panfish, but I would rather clean fewer big fish than many small fish.

I have been using both 3.75 and 4.75, but I tend to lean toward the 4.75... I yanked a 8 pounder last night on clear/silver/UV.
