« on: 04/03/15 16:03 UTC »
I've had the honor and occasion to chit chat with a couple members here by pm and Easter came up in one. I'll just take a second to wish everyone here a Happy Easter and hopes that your travels are safe as well as your weekend endeavors. Happy Easter everyone!

I spent the noon hour at Good Friday services,  helped serve communion.  Easter Sunday comes up the day after tomorrow.  It celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus and has nothing to do with the Easter Bunny.  It's what sets Christianity apart from other religions...we have a Living God.
Until next time.

It celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus

The single greatest day in human history... unless, maybe, you count "It is finished" (Friday) as the single greatest day.

Amen.  When I was young there were always Easter specials on TV.  These days there seem to be none, even though we have 200 times as many channels.

Well you will have to admit. Like the Easter bunny or not during an Easter egg hunt may be the only time you see some of these kids going outside and play. Back when I was a kid I we lived in the country. I spent hours and hours back in the woods or down by the creek catching little cubs on home made dough balls. Easter was a time when we got to see all our cousins. We got a few things for Easter, never very much and could only eat one or two pieces. So we would take those and put them in our pockets and take off to the woods with our cousins and show them our fort we built last year.
The world has changed and I for one am glade I grew up when I did. Here at my house we do not celebrate Easter. My mother past away one Easter afternoon. I don't blame Easter. I understand it's the cycle of life and Easter was just the day it happened. But it sure makes it hard not to think about it. Instead of celebrating I'll do like I've done for several years now and go take a walk in the woods.

You're a good guy, Lamar, and you have a wonderful ability to put words together.  "...a walk in the woods" would make a good book title.  Maybe it already has.
Until next time.

I've been involved in one way or another in vocal music for my whole life. I sang in our church choir for over 23 years but my lung disease took away my ability to do that any more. As we sit thru the various Easter related services, and we do go to all of them, its hard when the music is called for. Easter related music was and still is my favorite music throughout the church year. It has meaning to it. We'll be at the kid's place here in town for dinner and everything, but I am more like Lamar every year.

Losing a family member is never at the "right" time, but losing one on Easter would be the toughest test I think. I lost my Mother the day before her birthday. I had her removed from life support and held her hand as she left us. The 19th of May is always a hard day for me.

Mom's are special. I guess that is the best and most simple way to put it. My wife lost her mom last year the day after Christmas. Her and I stood by her bedside and watch her go. In a way I'm glad they both died around holidays. Now I have a reason not to have them. It's not the holidays I dislike it's all the traditions man has made around them. Last year for Christmas I rented a lodge ( in January because her mom was sick ) and had all the kids and grandkids stay the weekend. We hiked and played games and joked around the whole weekend. Each grandchild got one small present but that was all. Tomorrow they'll be here in the morning and I'll fix them their special eggs. I'll hide a few plastic eggs around the yard with a quarter in each and they may each get a couple of dollars. Then who ever wants to go on that hike with me can. I refuse to teach them that holidays are to spend money on each other. I do believe the best way to teach is by example.

Happy Easter to all within the forum. It is a time for all to reflect and give thanks for the blessed things we have. Wether they are memories or spending time with others to create them we all have been blessed on today.
