New Twist on an Old Favorite...?
« on: 10/22/11 00:08 UTC »
I grew up fishin' Inland Saltwater, mostly in lower Plaquemines Parish, between Murtle Grove and Venice, and everything in-between, but PREFERRABLY Empire and Buras.  As You ALL know, color of a bait TRULY makes a difference...not sure why...but it does.  I've had some memorable days in Buras (and Shell Island, wade/surf fishin') catchin' Specks and Flounder (I can give away the bigger Redfish) on Clear Plastic with Red, Silver and Blue Flake...I believe many call that "Firecracker", but please correct me if I'm wrong.  Specks and Flounder hit specific colors on days, when they won't hit much of anything else.

I recently got into "pouring" my own soft plastics, CCM Carrots as of this typing, in 1.75", 2.25" and 2.5"...Praise God!...and Thank You, Jason, Bro!  Of all the different color combo's that's bagged now, I have 1 in particular that I want to share...an Old Favorite, with my own twist.

I used 35 2.5" Clear CurlTails that are 3x Silver Flake (from Barlow's), 8 Green/Clear "Deadley Dudley Jr.s" (straight-tailed), 6 oz.s of CCM "Hard" Plastic Liquid, 2 Pinches of 0.015" Fire Red flake, 2 Pinches of 0.015" Navy Blue flake, 1 TSP of VooDoo brand Cold-Pressed Menhaden Oil, and 40 drops of CCM Green Pearl Smoke colorant...this makes about 10 oz.s total.  The End Result is a bait that's ultimately Clear, with a slightly-heavier-than-usual Silver Flake, a light Red & Blue flake, with a light Rich-Green hue that's perfectly accented/enhanced by the large silver flake from the CurlTails.  For a Clear Water bait, this is serious.  I was so stoked about it I made a 2nd batch.  Of course, fish 'em on a JigHead.

Welcome to the Forum.  Appreciate the recipe.  Firecracker is a good Crappie and Bass Color as well.  Glitter get's em.
Looked for a picture of a Green/ clear Deadly Dudley for color matching & couldn't find one.

Thank YOU, and You're very Welcome, Sir!  Went out to my shop and into the Inland Saltwater Ammo Box to check the Deadly Dudley Jr. pack(s).  The green/clear color is called "Fearless Frank".  They're a laminate with clear plastic & medium silver flake on 1 side, and the other side is a transparent Light Green Pearl.  I believe Deadly Dudley's can be had for about $3.50 or $4 per pack of 15...they're substantial baits, and "hard" saltwater plastic.

The 2.5" CurlTails from Barlow's... http://www.barlowstackle.com/25-Inch-Grub--P1211C32.aspx ...cheap.

The Deadly Dudley's would probably make a fine bait for those Stripers!

Tried to find some info and pics of the Dudley's online and found almost nothing.  I'll get some pics of them and the finished Carrots, somewhere between shortly and soon.  I think the Dudley's aren't necessary, especially for Yawl Pro's here!  I'll be back...

Edit: Tried the camera we have...the worst imaging I've ever seen.  My last digital camera was stolen in the 1st of 2 burglaries and I haven't picked up another 1 yet.  I'll keep trying, and post ASAP.

I'm assuming I post in The Gallery or do/can I copy/paste pics on this Thread?

I found with my digital camera, I had to turn on manual focus to get good pics. Sorry to hear about your house being broken into, twice.

Thank You Sir!  I may have to utilize PhotoBucket...I have an account there but have kinda "left it for dead".  I have been needing to get another camera, so I figured that this was the "last straw" and it was time.  Bought a refurbished 1 off of eBay ($58)...we'll see how it turns out.

The burglaries hit hard.  It was a 24 year old guy from up the road, someone I didn't know, but criminals will pattern You...the 1st time, they hit me while I was offshore.  They caught him after the 1st one...the 2nd one I never heard a word from the LEO's...I guess I'd have to say that I hope that boy needed my things more than I did...BUT, JESUS is Real and I've recovered...Plus Some...and I've forgiven that guy.  I don't have any hard feelings against him.  I don't live in the same place, also...not even the same state...so he couldn't do it again if he wanted to.
