I grew up fishin' Inland Saltwater, mostly in lower Plaquemines Parish, between Murtle Grove and Venice, and everything in-between, but PREFERRABLY Empire and Buras. As You ALL know, color of a bait TRULY makes a difference...not sure why...but it does. I've had some memorable days in Buras (and Shell Island, wade/surf fishin') catchin' Specks and Flounder (I can give away the bigger Redfish) on Clear Plastic with Red, Silver and Blue Flake...I believe many call that "Firecracker", but please correct me if I'm wrong. Specks and Flounder hit specific colors on days, when they won't hit much of anything else.
I recently got into "pouring" my own soft plastics, CCM Carrots as of this typing, in 1.75", 2.25" and 2.5"...Praise God!...and Thank You, Jason, Bro! Of all the different color combo's that's bagged now, I have 1 in particular that I want to share...an Old Favorite, with my own twist.
I used 35 2.5" Clear CurlTails that are 3x Silver Flake (from Barlow's), 8 Green/Clear "Deadley Dudley Jr.s" (straight-tailed), 6 oz.s of CCM "Hard" Plastic Liquid, 2 Pinches of 0.015" Fire Red flake, 2 Pinches of 0.015" Navy Blue flake, 1 TSP of VooDoo brand Cold-Pressed Menhaden Oil, and 40 drops of CCM Green Pearl Smoke colorant...this makes about 10 oz.s total. The End Result is a bait that's ultimately Clear, with a slightly-heavier-than-usual Silver Flake, a light Red & Blue flake, with a light Rich-Green hue that's perfectly accented/enhanced by the large silver flake from the CurlTails. For a Clear Water bait, this is serious. I was so stoked about it I made a 2nd batch. Of course, fish 'em on a JigHead.
