Looking for tips on bagging
« on: 04/27/15 18:07 UTC »
hey guys things have really picked up for me, the problem being is bagging 5" sticks is extremely time consuming  2 at a time, wondering if any of you had some time saving tricks (besides covering them in salt) to get those suckers in a 6x 4 bag quicker. i.e. any bagging tools or tricks of the trade. thanks for any help you can give me

Put them in a Tupperware container with some worm oil and shake them around. Grab a handful and drop them in the bag.

will that let them straighten out? so they don't get kinked? I let them cure for 72 hours on a cookie sheet before bagging

I understand your frustration. I bag a lot of very small baits and its a pain at times. I'll count out the number of bags I'll be needing and open them so I don't have to fight with them and oily fingers. Once they're all opened I run a thin line of worm oil across and just inside the zipper on the bag and then stand the bags on edge so the opening is up. This lubes the plastic bag, not the worm. But when they get slipped into the bag they'll slide right down to the bottom very easily. If they balk, a little shake is all it takes to settle them.

do you find it clouds or smears the bag? I know salt will do the trick too but my issue is I don't have bags labelled for specific colour so I don't want to use salt as it hides the colour, does the worm oil make the bags greasy or smudged? thanks for the replys

I haven't noticed anything unusual like clouding. The oil will leave a slick in the bag but I can't think of  plastic bait that doesn't have an oily film in the package they come in.

I use a 5" silicone spatula.  Lay ten baits across the spatula, use about four drops of worm oil inside the bag, insert the spatula inside the bag, with the spatula still inside the bag, turn the bag over and remove the spatula.  Walaa.

If the spatula is a little wide for the bag, use a grinding wheel to knock off the sides a bit.  Once you get this thing dialed in I think you'll find your bags filling much faster.
Until next time.

BRILLIANT!   ;)

I thought the last time we talked about this someone was using a cut down piece of one of those flexible cutting boards in much the same way Denny.

I tried that. My eggs tasted like Upper Hand Scent for next two mornings.

Are you sure that wasn't the spatula you used for scratching those nether regions on your carcass?

That would be me, same technique as Denny. Oil it down and lay out the baits.

Thanks kipbass, that's a pretty slick solution.  I like it.

I use this, it's a 1mm concrete panel shim, lay the baits slide it in and flip the bag over.
