Awesome catch on one of my jigs!
« on: 05/05/15 11:29 UTC »
So one of my pro staffers Charlie from Heavy Hitter fishing here in Alaska just had an awesome weekend fishing my saltwater jigs.
These are the new foil jigs I posted a how to on here about this last winter.
Well now I can say they are officially tested and they work great.
Out of 5 anglers in 2 boats Charlie was the only one to limit out and caught this beautiful 115# Halibut as part of his limit.
Here are some of his pics from this past weekend.

It's always nice to catch fish on something that you made.  Great fish !!!!!!
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

Yep it is an awesome catch. Wish I had been there.
This is the video he made. Notice how they had to harpoon and shoot this fish before bringing it on board. A .357  to the head works wonders to subdue big fish.

Yellow eye rockfish. Excellent eating.
Only problem with the rockfish is they don't last a long time in the freezer before going bad. Even when properly vac sealed etc.
That and they get barotrauma real bad so you need to have a deepwater release handy in case you get too many of them.

I learned from a commercial fisherman that if you bleed rockfish, by cutting the gills as soon as you catch them (it also helps to have them in a bucket of saltwater), that the fish will still taste great after many months in the freezer (when vacuum packed).  I have tried it and find that it is absolutely true.  Without bleeding they have a strong disagreeable taste after a few months in the freezer, but with bleeding they taste good even up to a year later.  Wonderful catches on those great lures of yours!
