Es beaver style bug 4.5 question
« on: 05/18/15 15:53 UTC »
hello everyone, I haven't posted or been on this site in a couple years unfortunately. However, things have come full circle for me and I'm back making baits and loving it. I see some things have changed quite a bit here over the years, seems I've missed out on a lot. Good to be back....

My question is, does anyone have any experience with the es beaver style bug 4.5? I'm interested in getting the details on the baits action, or lack there of. Is it a gliding bait, or does it flap and kick on the way down. Can you make a comparison between other baits? Anyone have video?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

No video...but it does catch bass!

The claws have a good flapping motion on the fall.

I use it primarily as a flipping bait,  Texas rigged and pegged.

I just started  adding it to a Do-it Brush Jig. It looks really good and it fooled a 4.25 lb largemouth this weekend fished in the wood. I need to order some heavy duty brush guards and see how they work compared to the medium. Since I fish a river...the current carries the bait into the trees and I think the heavier brush guard would help...if it's not so stiff I miss fish!

Walleyes eat it too. Unfortunately Northern Pike love the darn thing!

And welcome back!

Thanks for the welcome back...

Let me ask you this, I don't know if Jason is still involved or what but, in the past if I wanted to modify a mold just slightly he would typically do that. Does this still hold true or is it what you see is what get type of deal...?

I ask because of this; I would like to have this bait in both a flapping version and non flapping version, simple conversion In machining I would think

I'm not sure about getting even minor adjustments done now.  I haven't heard of this happening.

But you are in luck. There are two small bars holding the claws together in the mold which you have to trim to get it to flap...or keep them for the glide

Ummm...there are two horizontal  small tabs (sound any better?) that are holding the claws together....with a slight space down the center.

I would think that would give you the full claw...gliding type action that you are looking for.

PM me your address and I'll send you a few.

Yes that is what it's for. If you cut the tabs your claws will have more action. What I like about the bait over other beaver baits is the nose. It's a round ball type instead of a flat skinny one you see on others. I Texas rig it and it holds up better.

Here is a close up shot of the tail, if you look close you can see the small tabs holding the two sides together.

Nice job DF. I see you do what I do on the tail and just make it a solid color.

Hey thanks guys, although I figured it out, that was very helpful thank you. I can now also see the difference up close in the ES molds, not smooth, and little imperfections...boy, great color combo that looks frigid cool, and different
