Bluegill bugs
« on: 05/24/15 21:43 UTC »
Ive been tying tungsten ice jigs for winter and between them and plastic I havn't needed to use live bait for a couple years.  One of the lakes I like to fish is deep and fish can be caught winter and summer 40 to 50ft deep.  So I wanted a jig heavy enough to get down to them but in a small package for bluegills.  I came up with using the 1/16 oz football with a #10 hook and tied a scud pattern on it.  It turned out great looking and works good to get down in deep water fast.

Interesting.....Looks a lot like a dragonfly nymph to me. Let's us know how they work.

Nice - just be careful you don't clog up the hook bend so you have plenty of hook!!

Muskygary for ice fishing I tie on a #14 dry fly or scud hook with a 3.2mm tungsten bead.  These are quite a bit bigger than that but I think for deeper summer fish they won't have a problem eating the bigger bait.

So far just walked down to the river backwater behind my house and picked up 3 crappie and 1 sunfish.  I'll be trying them on crappies more this week and heading to glacial lakes south Dakota Friday to try for all kinds of panfish!http://custombaits.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=2478
