Do it molds and blending block
« on: 05/25/15 00:14 UTC »
I've just got my blending block and twinjector and noticed that the blending block does not fit in the do it mold correctly. Is there a way to fix this, maybe drilling the do it mold a little? I dont want to destroy the mold.

We have a BT twinjector that we tinker with at the Do-it Shop occasionally.  I've never met a Do-it Mold that it won't fit and I've never heard this from anyone else... what mold do you have that it doesn't fit?

I have ran into this before. I clamped my mold with c clamps and put it on my drill press. With a 5/8" drill bit, drill the sprue just the length of the nozzle on your injector. I suppose you could do it with a hand drill, also, but you would need a 1/2" Chuck on it. Be sure and don't go too far with the drill bit. Only the length of nozzle.

I have some of the old Jacobs molds and have drilled them out to fit the 5/8 injectors. You really don't have to drill the molds that deep, just deep enough to fit the injector. Maybe 1/8 inch deep. The hot plastic will still go into the mold.

I had to open up my ES mold too. I clamped it and took a dermel tool with a small barrel sander and sanded the inside of the spur just a little. Seems to work fine now.

I guess I can come up with a photo but you can't see that I've done anything. You just need to take the drum sander ( looks like a 5/16 inch one ) and go around the inside of the spur on the mold. Not the blending block. Mine would fit in the spur until I clamped it then it was hard to get in there so I only needed to take a very little bit off it.
I will say I like doing the laminates plates better then using a blending block. A lot less waste and the colors are more consistent.
