For the 1000th time
« on: 05/29/15 16:36 UTC »
I thought for my 1000th post I would say I never expected to hang around here this long when I first started. I thought I would get on here get a few ideas and move on. But this forum has challenged me. Not just for myself but also to help others. It's given me a way to pay forward to help others in doing what I like to do most. Playing in the outdoors. As I've gotten older I've realized it's not the the fish that all these years I was seeking. It's the smell in the air, the wind in my face or maybe even a Loon singing in the background. Each day God gives a new view. It may sound odd but I prefer to fish alone. Many of my favorite Canadian wilderness trips have been by myself. It's amazing how good that is for ones soul. So for me to tell a secret on how I catch a fish is no secret at all. I'm happy to share it and hope other enjoy it. Thanks for the years of sharing your ideas with me as well.

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

This site is great for sharing ideas and I love that. I see all the guys talking about recipes for colors in soft plastics or tips on which hooks are better, it is a place that is flowing with ideas and a lot of pride. You are one who gives as much as he gets Lamar and my lure making is better because of it, I'm glad you stuck around too!!!!

Atta boy, Lamar... we're waiting on 1001.

Though it seems odd to me about fishing alone, we are all different people... I definitely agree about all the wilderness aspects as the real reason(s) why we go fishing, however I find it all the better when sharing it with someone that enjoys it as much as I do.

Well here it is. Our group to Canada every year has gotten smaller. 20 years ago we took 12 guys and now it just three of us. Kids have grown and some guys have just moved on. The three of us are just really tight close friends and we like it this way. I hate three guys in a boat. It's just to much stuff so we rent another boat and take turns fishing with each other and alone. I always take one of my days and go off by myself and enjoy the day on what ever it brings me. Lots of times I find myself taking a nap by the waterfalls where I poured my parents ashes down. Something peaceful about that. So when I said I like to fish alone I mean day trips not the whole week. I have done the whole before and found I was coming into camp early each day. If I did that more often I think I would start to like it and do it again and again.

As much as I enjoy fishing with my guys, every now and again there is nothing better than finding myself in the back of a small creek by myself surrounded by Mother Nature. It's often at these times I find myself doing more watching and looking than actually casting. Some people go to church to feel closer to God but nothing makes me feel closer to him than being out on my boat alone on a beautiful morning watching the sun come up. When I first started fishing, my entire purpose for being out there was to catch a big fish but the older I get (I'm only 24 but I like to imagine myself as being a little wise beyond my years lol) the more I have come to realize I really go fishing as an escape from the monotony and stress of everyday life and utilize that time for quiet reflection.  It has taken a while but that Thoreau quote makes more and more sense to me all the time now.
