For big pike I like fire tiger or green perch which if you look at it sort of looks like fire tiger. But it depends on where your fishing. I go into Canada above Minnesota and the lakes I fish are river type lakes full of perch and walleye and water is a brown type color. The bait the fish are keying on is smaller so I make a small profile 1/2 oz spinnerbait in a fire tiger with a gold blade. Where we use to go to the east part of Ontario it was a bigger lake and a lot more clear. You could see 20 foot deep and the main bait was white fish and suckers. There we used 1 1/2 oz silver minnows and large 3/4 white or gold spinnerbaits.
So your asking what colors works best ? I guess you need to tell us a little bite more what your fishing. Not all colors and baits work in all lakes.

For walleye any color is OK as long as it has some chartruse on it. For northern, white spinnerbaits with #6 willow blades does the trick for me. Also a combo of black and orange blades. (Also popular for musky)

I had a request for plastics that will be used to catch pike and walleye.  I have never fished for either of those. We catch pickerel here in VA and they bite on just about anything.

I had a request for plastics that will be used to catch pike and walleye.  I have never fished for either of those. We catch pickerel here in VA and they bite on just about anything.

In plastics I mostly use them for trailers on spinnerbaits and silver minnows when it comes to pike. The teeth just tear them up. But swim baits do work well, just bring a bunch of them. Where I live in Ohio the perch are yellow with white belly's where as in some parts of Canada they are dark green with bright orange on the belly. So there orange is a great color. The walleye and pike will key in on baits with orange in them. The pike will also key in on gold as the walleye's belly up there is more gold. Here in Ohio is more white. The size of the bait you make depends on the size of the bait in the lake. As a rule I find larger bodies of water have bigger bait in them. Lakes with a lot of water flow ( I call them river lakes ) tend to have smaller bait and the larger fish will key in on a smaller bait. So if the guy wants you to help him out then he's going to have to give you some more info.

Big...

Notice the two primary colors in the bait that Johnn shows. Orange and black. Johnn lives in big pike territory and I think he's spot on with the colors. I'd add a wee bit of red to orange to get a bright red-orange in plastic. Red-orange and black get noticed in the backwaters of the Mississippi by big pike too. If it were me I'd be sure to have this combination in the mix of baits too.

We fish a lot of stained waters and I drag fairly high in shallows just outside the weeds. I will for sure add some red more like maroon thanks for the suggestion. When I get home from work today I will post some completed lures in some different patterns. Pike and bass hit a lot of blue silver white patterns up here because they mimic silver shiners which are plentiful in our waters. That pattern is especially good on overcast days or in the evening. Thanks for the info guys.

If you want to be sure a pike hits your lure...put on the most expensive balsa bait you have. Works every time! LOL :D  (Good for one pike)
