Hair Jigs

Good article on hair jigs at Bassmaster.com. The jig that Evers used to win the event had a long strip of rabbit in it. (There's a picture of it in the article). Also says that hog farmer jigs use sincythic hair. (sp) Going to have to tie up some  bucktail with rabbit strips in the center!

I've tied a few for some guys that fish Kentucky Lake using Yak hair which is a synthetic. The reason you will see synthetic a lot more is because these are large hair jigs that are 6" to 8" long and there are only a few suppliers of buck tail that has that kind of length. I got some a long time ago and the cost was outrageous and it still is judging by the price of some of these jigs. I can't the long buck tail anymore, probably because the bigger lure making outfits have grabbed all there is, so Yak fur is used along with some long hackle. Yak fur is a craft fur that is real long, you need to make full jig with it as it compresses a lot in the water but it does have good action.

 fur.Thanks for the info smalljaw, I'll be looking for the Yak fur. As for Mo's yak, I hear that's only good for carp fishing!!
