Problem twin injecting mold
« on: 06/30/15 06:11 UTC »
Hey guys
Trying to inject half and half on this bait, blue in the top half and white bottom half. Using twinjector with blending block. I either get it blended in, or one side of the bait is blue and the other side is white. Any suggestions?

Dan

That mold is oriented side to side and is also a multi-cavity. I don't think it will work. Single cavity molds work best and multi-cavity molds should be top on one side, bottom on the other.

Now if you want to try some tricks with that mold here are two sugestions: 1. pour clear plastic with some glitter in it. Then take the baits and "paint" the top half with eye shadow or I spike it paint back to where the tail starts.  Put on some eyes and dip it in hot clear plastic just up to where the tail starts. (you want to keep the tail limber with a lot of movement, so you don't want think plastic. 2. Read the forum topic Oh..Boy. Make a laminate plate for the mold and shoot the bait in clear plastic. Then take half ou. Also all the sprues etc. Then using a toothpick put a small dot of color on the clear plastic side you left in the mold. (For starters; put a drop of chartruse at the beginning of the tail and a drop of green at the head) Next close the mold leaving it on it's side and inject the second half with clear plastic. Now you should have a clear bait with a green line down the side and a chartruse line down the tail!

Chainz....

Shoot the mold once using just plain junk plastic and let the mold cool closed. Open the mold carefully and keep all of the lower baits in place, but cut the sprue and top bait out. Cut the sprue right at the bottom of the gate for the top bait. Close and clamp the mold leaving the lower bait in place and then shoot it with your block and injector. Essentially it will be a single cavity mold and you should get baits done the way you want them.

It takes some work but you can shoot the baits blue, take a long razor blade and cut the baits in half, put half back in the mold and then shoot the white.

Chainz,
What is that mold? Doesn't look familiar at all?
