Looking to use a 3/0 EWG hook in it. The 2.25 tail is good, nice to have the option of leaving it long or trimming it. So I guess the body needs to be 1.5 to hold the hook, 3.75 over all lenght. I don't know the diameter of the exsisting body, but looking for something scaled down a little, proportional. And don't forget those sexy legs!!!

Are you going to Texas rig it with a worm hook?  A 3.0 EWG worm hook needs a minimum of 2" if you are going to bury the hook in the bait.  With this being a tube you could stick the hook in the hollow opening, but it could come out while fishing.  Let me know.

Thanks,

Jason

I 2nd the 3/0 EWG....that's the biggest I use for Texas Rig

Would the current version be ok on a 3/0?

The body on the current one is 2.625".  A 3.0 would work, but it is really designed for a 4.0, 5.0 hook, or a tube jig.  I think a 2" or 2 1/8" would be perfect for a 3.0 or smaller tube jig.  Smaller than 2" you would be putting the hook in the opening vs. through the bait.  This will work, but my preference would be through the bait to secure the hook.

I see myself using it on the c-rig, t-rig and pitching with a pegged sinker, so I would like to be able to skin hook the bait.

How hard is this bait to shoot?

I would say medium easy.  The biggest challenge right now would be the cold and the tail.  You may have to shoot it twice to get it warmed up, or keep them in the house so they aren't cold.  I don't think anyone has had trouble getting good baits out of any of our skirted baits.

One tip - make sure the spline is pressed all the way towards the rear of the mold (hinge end).

Hopefully others will chime in regarding their skirted bait injecting experiences.

As a standard operating procedure I use a heat gun ($35 at the hardware store) to warm my molds and injector prior to shooting the first bait.  This really helps eliminate defects from the plastic curing too quickly in the first few shoots.  I also use a little worm oil on the spline to aid in easy removal when de-molding.  I don't have this bait in particular but I do have the skirted grub and I have never had an issue with the spline (skirt) not filling out completely. I usually have my plastic at or around 350F.  I don't use a lot of salt (if any).  I do use softener (action is more important than durability to me).  I use some flakes and colorant - that's about it.

I had some issues with the skirts...until I followed Jason's instructions...and now they shoot great.

1. Make sure the mold is warm (at least)
2. Make sure your plastic is hot (350+)
3. Inject slowly with even light pressure.

If you don't do #1 and #2 some of the skirt will shoot short because the plastic cools before it gets to the end.

I also found it helpful to occasionally wipe some worm oil on the skirt mold so that the plastic flows well up the channels..but that doesn't seem necessary once the spline is hot.

When I was working in the garage (I have since moved downstairs for the winter)...I would put the mold and spline on a hotplate to warm them up and as I was working I would keep them covered in a towel so cold air didn't blow over them.

Thanks for the tips...

Looks like a good bait.  I haven't tried injecting yet...waiting on Santa to deliver the "goods".
