crawfish

I do not target smallmouth bass . but I have been catching them while chasing other fish. The problem is I am starting to like it. Im thinking crawfish mold. My question is to the smallmouth guys if you had to choose one crawfish mold what would it be? And how would you rig the bait? I want to get one good bait mold and learn how to fish that bait for starters. Thanks

I'm a big smallmouth fan and I really like the Mad Dad 3XL. You can rig it on a football jig or Texas Rig. I use it a lot on the Do-it Arkie jig.

I would recommend the Mud Bug (http://store.do-itmolds.com/375-Mud-Bug_p_163.html).  It not only has claws that flap very well when used as a bass jig trailer, but I think the paddle legs really give it the edge when fished alone such as on a shaky, which was very good to me sight fishing this spring... I was getting fish when most other couldn't and they were of very high quality.

1/4oz is my size... I didn't think you use anything other than the cannon balls you were hyping last fall.

alright then. Both are good looking baits. I will start with one of them now. Looks like I need jig molds too. What are the advantages of the shaky and or the arkie jigs? And thanks for your advice.

You can get by with one of the craws (as I do), but you'll want both of the jigs!... such different applications, they are both very necessary IMO.

 I agree...both!

In Canada a few weeks ago they would not touch the Arkie with the craw....but would fight over a MadDad 3xl on a shaky head.

On the Mississippi I do much better with the Arkie...especially in the fall/early winter.

Right on... I use it more than any other size for both brown and green.
