Adding glitter to jigs

Hey guys I have some questions on adding glitter to jigs. I'm wanting to make some jigs similar to northland disco jig.

So let's say I have a red jig and wanna add red glitter. My question is do I paint the jig red and then dip in red glitter and clear or do I mix the glitter paint and clear all together? Thanks for the help guys!

Best way I found is to powder paint then use glitter finger nail polish to add the glitter. That way you don't mess up the powder paint for future colors

Do I need to cure between the coats or just when finished?

You could use a disco color of powder paint from Do-It. Or you could get a red candy color of powder paint that they carry and add red glitter to it.

I have a couple guys that buy commercial tackle and have me add a glitter top coat to the already finished baits. I give the baits a shot of clear lacquer then quickly dust micro glitter in the color they want onto the wet paint and then give it another light shot of clear. Lots of ways to get glitter on baits. Those disco colors of powder paint are a snap if you only need the one color though.

Some nail polishes don't play nice with powder coats even if the powder has been baked.

Tom is right. Do-It does offer disco colors in powder paint and the essential series glitter does work in both liquid paint and powder paint if you want to go heavier on the glitter.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm trying to get away from pro tech paints for cost reasons. So if adding glitter to automotive paint where is the best place to get glitter? I'm assuming like walmart, hobby lobby, or michaels?

You can used the same glitter as what's used in the plastic. Depending on the lure size I am guessing that the .008 size will be best. Larger lures can handle the .015.

Nothing really. Essential, standard and micro glitter found at the do-it store or any other site where plastic is sold will work.

The difference is in the amount the essential is a smaller jar 1 Oz
