How do you make a metallic color? Is there a special place to buy metallic colors?

We have silver, gold, purple, blue, green, brown, copper and white (pearl / mica colorant).  There are others as well we just don't have them yet.  This is the only way I know to get that effect.  Maybe Keith has can confirm this is how he is doing it - or maybe there is a different way?

you would be surprised at what you can do with the pearls, lumina and hightlight powders as well there are some for painting cars that would blow your mind, and wallet. There is some very cool stuff like chameleon pearl powders and other, some I will never get to try as its up to 200.00 an ounce. :o but you can do most by adding pearls and highlights to your colors like the blue, its highlight, lumina powder and electric blue coloring, add those to red or lime and you get more affects.

very nice baits! Question for you or jason, what is the difference between a "pearl powder" and a metallic? They seem very similiar in pictures but was wondering if there is a benefit for one over the other..

Thanks!  8)

I believe they are all Mica.  Mica is a mineral.  They are mainly used in the auto and cosmetic industry.  Any time you see a paint or plastic that is sparkly, odds are pretty good a Mica (pearlescent) was used.  To the best of my knowledge they all come from BASF.  2 oz. will last most people years, unless you are making thousands of baits.

It's the same stuff that makes the Blue Smoke, Silver Smoke, etc.  We are going to start carrying some powder Mica because some of it changes based on what color you put it in.  I have about 200 colors I am trying to pick from.  Will probably carry 8 - 10.  Another project...
