Shine

How do I get my baits to shine? They appear a little dull. I am using do-it Es plastic and I also have m-f regular plastic. I do not mix the two together.

Mixing PVC Plastic (standard Plastisol MINUS the water-based Gulp/GulpAlive/TriggerX in liquid, and maybe Exude), You will get a combination of Each Blends' Characteristics, but all Oil-based PVC Plastics are chemically-compatible.

What mold are You using?

For the Most Part, the most Economical solution is probably to Lightly Oil the Mold Cavity/Cavities.

If You have Worm Oil, definitely use that.  If not, many Oils will suffice "for the time-being".  You can use Natural Oils, but most of those can Gum over time, so using "Plastisol-oriented" oils will be Your best bet for the duration...BUT, in the Short Term, know that even Natural Oils wash off easily before they gum (that does take awhile, to gum-up) and Aluminum Injection Molds wash easily, so You're definitely not shut down.

Me, I use "Now" brand Almond Oil from GNC to lube Injectors and what-not, so I don't get any "artificial smell" and that Oil is readily available so I can easily re-up when I need to.

I wouldn't hesitate to use other Natural Oils in a pinch, I'd just watch for gumming and make sure I maintained-very-well anything I used those Oils on.  It's always a good idea to inspect everything, periodically, anyway.

A light coat of Oil in the cavity/cavities will help with their Sheen.  A little Worm Oil after curing will help, also.

Worm oil is all you need to slick those baits up nice. The "NOW" essential oils Gary mentions are great to scent baits. I buy eye dropper bottles at the drug store and put about 2/3 of the bottle full of worm oil and then add about twenty drops of the Anise oil I use and this makes a potent addition to a bag of baits. I only use two drops of the mix to about forty drops of worm oil in the bags. Makes a great cover scent and the almond is just as good as anise.

Try some pearl powder too. It will give your bait a glossy look. I like to use it in minnow type baits.

Make sure your plastic is getting to 350, if your plastic does not fully change state you will get cloudy/dull baits.
