What size do you prefer?
« on: 01/22/16 18:10 UTC »
Everybody's tastes and plastic cooking demands different we all seem to have those pet cups for getting the job done. What do you all use the most? Myself I like smaller cups since I inject mostly small baits. I eliminate a lot of waste and can control handling temperatures way better using smaller cups. Shortly after I started with injection I got to liking Pyrex restaurant grade custard cups for my plastic cooking and the one shown here in this picture is my favorite of favorites.

This is a 4 ounce shoulder custard. It has a very heavy lip which is great for resisting chipping. The whole cup is heavier than most Pyrex. Heat distribution is very even and the tapered inside walls make stirring and getting complete mixing a simple job. They are just plain nice cups to work with.

Lately Ma and I have been poking around in thrift stores looking for stock to put in the antique shop....this post Christmas period can be a treasure waiting to be found. I've been finding these cups in numbers and haven't paid more than a quarter for one of them. Some were a nickel each. I think I may be up to about 40 of these now so I can stop looking so hard now. Finding them seems to go in spurts. But if any of you are looking for a super cup for smaller quantity cooking sessions, I'd suggest snooping in thrift store for these puppies. They are just a pleasure to use.

What are some of your favorites?

I use regular glass Pyrex cups with the measuring sticks painted on the side , I usually get them at the dollar general . Its kind of funny when you buy all of them they have and walk up to the counter the lady looks at you like you need 6 of these why ?  I feel obliged to answer , I make bass fishing lures pull my hat down avoid the awkward looks and walk out lol.

Those look nice Tom , we don't have alot of thrift stores around here so I may have to do some looking online, one can never have enough cups .

I usually make between 1/2-1 1/2 cups of plastic at a time depending on what I'm making, how many baits I'm making. If there's any left I throw it in my scrap bin and use it next time.

I use the Pyrex measuring cups also. Big cups for bigger baits and the small one cup for my crappie baits. Like having the handle on the side. I wish they had a smaller pour spout, but I use a drizzle spoon for my open pour molds. Put the drizzle spoon on a hot plate to keep it warm. Pour from the pyrex into the spoon, switch hands , and pour into my molds.
