Who are our gun folks
« on: 01/25/16 19:12 UTC »
I know it's off the fishing topics but just figure I'll see who else share another common threat guns! I'm not a collector by any means but enjoy hunting and shooting. My favorite just to shoot guns are AK-47s and my 9mm's. The AK thing got started when I was in  Afghanistan. I learned to respect the fact their guns even fired after being in that environment with out ever seeing a good cleaning much less oil. The air there has baby powder fine dust that just floats around. I would have been a little more worried had I known how combat accurate they were in steady hands.  :P
The great 9mm debate always goes on but it's cheaper to shoot penatrate ls well and just fun. I just finished a higher AR build so I'm gaining more trust in the ole Stoner but still not  married in yet even if it has been 100% thus far.
My true caliber passion is the 25-06 I LOVE that round it's fun, flat and a deer  devastator ! A good steady hand and a good trigger and that thing is scary!! I'm building a range at the house this spring with a pistol side and 100 yard rifle. I'm goi g to use ar 500 steel targets and set them up more tactical that a "wall" of targets. Lucky I have a creek bluff to shoot into as a back stop so I can spread the targets out.
Any ways what do yawl like in guns and what not ?

I love muzzleloaders! Have about three, one I made from a kit. Love the idea of making your guns. Dixie used to have a lot of kits, but haven't looked at them in several years since I started pouring plastics. Would love to make a little squirrel rifle in .22 or .23 caliber, but I would probably have to make my own bullets also. Something for me to think about in the future.

I use to hunt but haven't in over 20 years. Just not into it any more. But nothing against it. I do have a CCW and I do carry most every day a Sig 380. I do have several guns hidden around the house fully loaded. Being in the security business I see a lot. I always slide a pistol in my pocket when grilling, mowing or just being outside. Breaking into my house when I'm home would be a very big mistake.

The only gun I hunt with is a muzzle loader and I shoot 1 deer a year with a purpose built deer slug gun, but I just love guns. I've got a really nice Rock River AR that I've tricked out nicely and is fun to shoot. Also like my bolt action .17hmr with a 40 mm 16 power nikon I can easily hit a quarter at 100 yards. I like shooting 9mm pistols and on the other side of the handgun power range  Ruger super Redhawk 44 mag is way fun too. OK I'm just rambling now and just talking about guns makes me want to buy more. Thanks for making me think about my other even more expensive than tackle crafting adiction MO  ;D

I have a buddy that squirrel hunts with a .32 Kentucky that is longer than a pole vault! He built it and it's a tack driving beauty. I never seen a gun so heavy and long  that is so steady and balanced. I woul like to build a Hawkins .50 but I love the look of Kentuckys

I hunt deer with a .50 in-line Thompson Center scoped with a Nikon pro-staff 2X7 power. Very accurate and a 1 shot wonder.

Years ago I took a fancy to pre-64 model 70 Winchesters. I have one in .220 Swift, one in 06, one in .243, one in 257 Roberts, and my squirrel popper, a .458 Winnie Mag Safari Grade. I don't play with these anymore or at least not very often.

The big guy I bought and it came with reloading dies, a couple hundred once fires, the powder, some bullets and about 120 factory rounds. I take it to the range maybe once in the summer with a couple rounds just to make noise, but its a super accurate rifle with a 2 power Leopold scope. The Swift is the real shooter of all of these and will print a dime sized pattern of 5 shots at 100 yards consistently. The Roberts isn't too far behind the Swift. Both of these have straight 6 power Redfields on them. I have 2 Custom 700 Remingtons, one in 222 Remington and the other in 7 Mag. The 222 is scoped with a straight 8 powder Weaver and the 7 carries a 2X7 Redield, widefield.  Both of the customs are shooters. I have the dies for all of them but I don't run enough ammo thru them to do any reloading....maybe if I won the lottery and could buy a couple hundred thousand acres in Montana.

I love pre64 winchesters as well however the only thing that cost more than them is a divorce lol
I shot a 458 once!!! Good Lordy it punished on both ends!!! It's an impressive cannon that's for sure. I would like a 257. I think the 25-05 made me like the odd ball stuff.  I would love to have a double barrel rifle in 375 HnH. Aaaaa a Cape Buffalo hunt in Africa with a beautiful double bore, Hemingway book and a good whiskey  ;)

I shot 8" Howitzers in Germany for a couple years, but that was almost 50 years ago.  Shot a deer and a bunch of birds, but didn't care all that much for the experience so I quit.  Had a close friend who's youngest daughter found dad's loaded shotgun and shot and killed her sister.  I know it wasn't the gun's fault, but I'll never forget it.  Another friend, his teenage son and their dog were pheasant hunting on their club property.  A nineteen year old girl following them tripped.  The dog took the full charge and died on the spot.  The son had been shot in the butt and back and as far as I know he still sets off an occasional airport metal detector.  Be careful.
Until next time.

Not much of a hunter but I do enjoy getting out to shoot every now and then. Have several handguns and a 12 gauge but that's about it. Living in and around Birmingham and working the trauma unit at the hospital gives me plenty of reason to carry nearly all the time too.

I don't shoot or hunt much anymore but I have a small collection of guns that have been in my family for years.  My favorite to shoot is the 32 Winchester special, the lever action makes me feel like I'm in the old west.

I don't hunt or shoot much anymore but still have a dozen or so guns locked up in the gun safe. My favorite is an old 300 Savage my grandfathers brother bought in the late 40s ?  I can't even begin to count the number of deer that gun has taken through the years. 30+ just between my dad and I.Just a beautiful old gun. My GFs son has pretty much inherited my 7 x 57 Mouser. I believe it's of WW II vintage. That thing is a tack driver. My favorite muzzle loader is a TC 209 x 50 Encore. Favorite pistol is Ruger Super Blakhawk 44 Mag. Favorite plinkers are an OLD Winchester single shot 22 with the pull back firing pin. Lord only knows how many rounds I put through that thing as a kid and a great squirrel gun too. I have an old beater SKS that's fun to plink with too. It's plenty accurate to hunt deer with (if need be) for a cheaply made gun.

I'm not sure that I would ever carry but I'd like to take a CC course one of these days.

I always thought a .416 Rigby would be a great double gun until I shot one....once. That ended that love affair.

Well favorite gun has to be the old trusty 30-30 marlin or the 30-30 winchester which i shot my first buck with. just love them lever action guns!!!!!!!
I have  some guns but have sold a few over the past couple of years cause i don't shoot them an or when u did they cost u a couple of hundred at the range.. cause u can't just stop at...1 box especially when u can burn through em in seconds. I have been lookin for a 7mm 08 for my daughters first deer gun. Looked at the .243 also. alot of people use them for deer up here. If i was to pick 1 weapon to hunt deer with it would have to be my bow. nothin like gettin up an close to the animal an it usually aint that cold out in archery season. I love to shoot trap / skeet also but never went full in with it an bought a trap gun so i just use one of my 12 gauges and have fun with it. My buddy has a nice little semi 20 gauge that has been offered to me but i can't seem to dish all that money  he is askin. I should of never sold my brownin citori an i will kick myself for years over that 1.

My SBEII is my deer gun.  I've got it paired with a Nikon scope.  Really like that gun.  It's got a cantilever barrel so I throw on the bird barrel for turkeys and fowl.  I bought an AR last year but I'm still torn between a red dot scope or a regular scope with crosshairs. I like having the ability to do a lot of customization on the AR platforms.  My personal protection gun is my Springfield Amory XDM 9mm.  I wouldn't mind getting one in .40 caliber in the future.  Few other skeet and trap guns that don't see much daylight outside of the safe anymore.  A 1911 is next on my list.  Anyone have any suggestions for a good 1911?

I have an original Colt 1911. I've had it tightened up and it shoots fairly accurate. Any auto handgun will be a 12 yard gun for self defense and about all they have to do is hit a cabbage at that distance to be considered accurate. I have also shot the Remington 1911 in 45 and that's a sweet gun. For in-home protection I'd go auto, .40 or larger or a 12 gauge with 00 buckshot. Cartridge capacity isn't going to be a huge issue at close quarters with a hand gun, but you want something that makes a large hole in whatever it hits. My Super Blackhawk works for me when I am outside. My .50 in-line pistol is a great handgun. Its got a red dot on it and gets loaded with 100 grains of white hot pellets behind a sabot and a 300 grain XTP hollow point .45 bullet. What I does to a deer inside of 75 yards is something else. Can't imagine what it would do in a self-defense situation.
