Herring Heads and Post Spawn Browns
« on: 02/08/16 22:19 UTC »
The entire harbor re-opened this weekend and the Browns cooperated.  Some big post spawners starting to put back on the feedbag.

The two hot baits were a 3.75" Smokin Shad on a 1/2 ounce Herring head (3/0 Eagle Claw 635 hook) and a 3.5" Swim Shad on a 3/8th ounce Herring Head (2/0 Eagle Claw 635 hook)

That second fish was almost 35" but spawned out and only weighed 14 pounds.  That fish will be pushing 20 pounds by next August.

I've just been painting the heads Chrome and putting an eye on them.  The swim baits are straight pearl, or pearl with one dot of black and they get silver.  Then some times I'll add a drop of watermelon to the pearl and they get an emerald pearl color.

LOL, Tom... Are you referring to the open water and the weather?  I read last week that only 6% of the Great lakes are frozen.  Just the opposite the last two years.

Well done Marc !!!!!!

I noticed the stretch of river in town here has opened up. Not near enough to get the boat in but I did see a couple guys in kayaks paddling around. I think this is the first winter that I never saw a snowmobile track on the river. Usually it's a snowmobile highway this time of year.

Do you think this current cold snap will be enough to lock up the harbor again ?

Yes if this cold goes 4-5 days like it is supposed to and gets still over night, we will glaze over again.  The water was only 35 so it wont take much to skim over again.

I hear on the Great Lakes Marc. At Two Harbors they are still casting the breakwater.

Great pics Marc . The couple of warm day's really makes the difference. The walleye's are biting at the Dells in the boats.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN
