Done it at Do-It
« on: 02/11/16 19:03 UTC »
I have been putting stuff in a box that I needed to get back to the Do-It shop and this morning Carole and I decided that today was the day for a road trip. Great travel conditions had us at the Do-It door just before Ryan's morning coffee break. We even managed to burn up Jordan's morning coffee break.....ah, the joys of bsing. Carole even managed to sneak away and was finally found back in the stitching bay with the girls who make the tackle bags and rod carriers. While Ryan and I talked tackle and fish, she talked directions to antique shops.

I needed a little plastic and some glitter and Ryan took care of me. I wandered back to Jordan's hide-out and said toodle-loo and then went to find Kyle to say so long. Now Kyle stopped in the office for a couple minutes and then said something about having work to do. Of course when I went in to say good-bye Kyle was sitting there with a mouthful of what I take it was a medium rare steak. At his desk. Now that's what I call work. Well done Kyle. Ryan said Kyles daily intake of near raw meat was incredible even if Kyle weighs only 103 pounds with his pockets full of wet sand and silver dollars. The guy can eat.

It was a great visit, one that happens far too infrequently. I caught a view of the new hook inventory and all I can say to that is WOW. Thanks Do-It! It was a great visit.

I have it on pretty good authority that Do-It has installed a new back door that's rigged with a fancy alarm that goes off whenever your car is within 10 miles of Do-It HQ.  The door leads to the adjacent Iowa corn fields.
Until next time.

Snow field Denny, snow field. Iowa has no corn now. All the back doors are drifted shut and I use a rental all wrapped up pretty in colored aluminum foil now to approach the buildings, works pretty slick. Your name came up a couple times yesterday Denny, but I told Ryan that you can't help yourself most of the time and that the proper thing is to just nod so your feeling don't get hurt.

What's this about tackle bags and rod carriers? Didn't know Do-it made those. Any chance they'll be in the store? Do they make rod socks?

Huh? You were there and took the tour bud. Didn't pay attention, eh? Back in the injection area, straight across to the corner at the same end of the building other side. They make rod and tackle storage components. Nice stuff. High end. Toss a note to Kyle. He'll give you the low down.

On another note here. Ryan has given the go ahead to set up a another get-together at Do-It, same approximate time frame as the first one. We also discussed the idea of having a warm weather get-together in a different location where fishing and ya-hooing can be done wearing shorts and guys can put their baits to the test other that just yacking about it.

The in-shop get-together has benefits that are more closely related to the products Do-It sells and the actual application of those products in a shop-like environment. This is hard to do in a site off site. All of the products are right there with their professional shooting booth at everyone's disposal along with every mold they make. Its just a matter of practicality and yet offers an open door to any new-comers who would like to take part in a great time. The January/early February time-frame fits into a quiet slot for the company. Later on in the calendar year is a busy time for the company and is a tough time to squeeze something like this into their schedule, earlier is a hassle with holidays. By keeping this event in-house it allows all of those who chose to attent the opportunity to see first hand the scope of the business which which they are dealing and it also allows time for hands-on experiences as well. At the last get-together there were several persons who showed some un-real talents at the shooting table and this aspect just isn't possible to the extent it was by having a gathering of this nature off-site.

Both Ryan and I are in favor of getting a summer get-together anchored up where fishing the baits and basically having a good time in some heat and where families can be included. Some parties may not find it handy to attend the winter event but can make a summer event so having both sort of opens up more doors.

For those newer members who haven't been a part of this family for very long I'll give a re-cap of what is being discussed here. Do-It opened its doors to a a loose group of us forum members so we could tour the plant and have some time to play with the products the company offers. At the time of the get-together on the first evening we all met in a quaint little tavern and had a few beers and basically got introduced to one another. We had people from both coast and from near the Gulf attend as well as some of us from the frozen north. The following day we started at the do-It complex with OJ and sweet rolls and coffee. Again we shared some names and stories of how we got to where we were with the tackle crafting. A full facility tour was given, then we took time for lunch at one of Denver Iowa's best hamburger joints ever. A hamburger there is about 1/4 of a beef. And cooked the way a guy wants them cooked!
After the eats we retired to what I call the shooting arena to work some practical applications to injecting plastic. Anyone who had an idea or a technique to share was allowed to step up to the task using products and molds furnished by the company. We also got to see some product innovation that wasn't even public yet. The Essential plastic was introduced to us in the first get-together and we had a field day playing with that stuff, long before it was made available to the general public. This interaction is vital to product development and this is where OUR input helps to form a product's final make-up.

More than anything this get-together at this time of year gets people together to names with faces and to help cement friendships made over the internet. Somewhere on the site here is a picture of the whole group in the shooting arena. I don't think I've ever met or been a part of a better group of people. And I consider every one of them a friend yet today. This in-house event is just something else and I can't possibly cover every positive aspect of it. It is something I do heartily endorse. I need ya'll to drop me a pm if they have ideas for a location to have a summer event and if any of you are willing to develop that idea some. Lets get both of these on the table now so we can get things done for the summer blast. Mo? You help at all?.

This event was also where Mo brought his "Mo Magic" mold and after the group saw it; it took off! It was a neat get together, would love to do it again.

Thanks Kyle. Very informative stuff there. And anyone getting in on the "house" get-together will see the girls with the thread in action. I don't think that many here understand how expanse the Do-It empire really is.

And Jordan....its always a pleasure yacking at you too. I see that you have slipped right into the swing of things there and you make a real good addition to an already stellar bunch there.

Clear Creeks Sling backpack is awesome.  Great design,  I wore it around Disney for 8 days and it was so comfortable.  This may be the best camera bag you could buy.

I'm up for another trip. We will need to get a bag of hand warmers for Denny this trip.
