Mr. Whiskers
« on: 03/20/16 16:41 UTC »
Was watching the Bassmasters at St. Johns and saw a quick view of what one of the anglers was using. I thought I can make that. So I made up a little different bait but one I think will work well for me in my area on bedding fish. It's a simple idea. If you put that on a bed those whiskers would never stop moving.

I've been doing this for many years.   This is one I've kept under my hat, but if it was on tv it's out of the bag now.   It is absolutely deadly on bedded bass that are hesitant.   I just use a large needle to pull the material through.

I just took a needle and threaded it through the bait. Needed to use worm oil but it was easy.

I used this technique fairly often when tying top water flies with balsa or flip-flop bodies.  I never even thought about using it with plastics.  Thanks, Lamar.
Until next time.

It's a very simple idea and very easy to do. I took a needle with a large eye and soaked the strands with worm oil and pulled them though. How simple is that ? And it may take the ES Beaver bait into the next level.

I think it was Brent Chapman's boat they were showing. It was one of his UV baits. He says the UV gives the bait a different look. I can see that on a bedding fish because the bass a lot of times will stare at the bait before bitting or moving it off the bed. On a reaction bite I think it makes no difference. Either way a bass sees a lot of plastic in his life and you need to do something different then the average Joe.
