Some crappie nummies
« on: 07/27/16 10:02 UTC »
The outside temp and the humidity today are such that I can actually breathe so I hit the bench to get some baits in my crappie bucket. Hopefully I will be able to hit some water early next week. The box that these little 1 3/4" minnows go in has been on the slack side since earlier this spring when the crappies found favor with them so I decided to start the replenishing project with them.

I have some more color ideas including my standard purple/chartreuse tail and will add those yet today. Normally I don't add eyes but since I intended to get a picture and I brushed hi lites on the backbones and had to dip the baits I figured fine. The mold pops ten at a time but thirty of these would confuse the picture. The purple and smelt colored baits were done using the Do-It twin injector while I did a simple hand pour of the chartreuse and an injection of the pink on the others.

The others I plan to do are more along more natural baits color line, won't get eyes and will see the hi lite in the plastic.

Very nice! On the upper left corner, what is that top color that looks brown? On the yellow body baits, do you catch crappie on that color?

For dirty water that chartreuse/hot pink is a good color and crappies will smack it readily.

That brown is a Jacquard pearl-x color, #661 Antique copper. Its part of a 12 color set I have. I may buy another series too....the stuff is fun to mess with and having baits that nobody else can get is nice, especially when a certain color is producing over a span of a few days.

I mentioned that I don't use eyes unless the camera is coming out. I will add the brushed on hi lites though if I think its helping....I carry baits without the hi lite brush too. Same colors, no hi lite brushed on.

This minnow is just a bit meager without a dip though so I dip all of them for my own use and as long as they're getting the clear I brush half of them. I'll do a couple in one color of hi lite and then a couple in an entirely different color. Often the difference in performance falls in what color the hi lite add-on is more than the bait shape, action or basic color scheme Sometimes the hi lite matters and at other times it doesn't. I'm covered either way.

What's the mold you have there?... that would also be a potential drop shot dandy (in a slightly bigger size).

The mold is a Jacobs Silverfish without the machined eyes.
