Poison Swingtail
« on: 10/22/16 18:37 UTC »
My new Poison Swingtail mold that that I ordered from Zeiner's came in the mail on Thursday and I got the chance to make up 4 of each size this am ...and then fish them this pm.

Pun intended...I'm hooked!!!!

The new wire forms are fantastic! You can use any hook you want AFTER you mold and paint the baits. The wire forms are easy to clamp shut on any hook you wish.

I fished the river this pm and landed a bunch of bass on the 3/8oz including two  4 lbers. I was using an Essential Beaver cut down a bit on the 3/8oz size and the bass loved it. I was crawling the bait along the bottom  for most of the fish...but caught a couple swimming it like a swimbait back to the boat.

Both 4lbers came on a 3/8 oz head and a Baby Berry with a bluegill skirt.

Easy to mold, easy to paint.... A+ on this mold!

Glade to hear that you had succes with modified one of my molds before they came out with it. Mine you cans turn the hook on and off as need. Freedom jigs are set up that way. I think I have a pic in the photo gallery.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

Gonna see if some Size or Sizes of 91768's will fit it (with little or no modification)...would make a Kickin' Wide Gap Jighead.

Re: Poison Swingtail with answers to some questions I had
« Reply #4 on: 10/23/16 11:56 UTC »
Here are some answers to some of the questions I had before I molded and fished the bait:
1. Is this a swim jig ....or a bottom jig like the Football Swing Jig: It seems to work well for both.
2. Can I really use "any" hook??  YES..there is an open eye loop at the back the will take any horizontal eyed hook. I was able to bend the hook loop to accept a vertical hook after I molded the jig without damaging the bait.
3.  Can I re-open the hook loop and change hooks? Yep...I did it 6x to test it...and did not damage the jig (loosen the form in the lead).
4. Will the baits fit into the TJ's painting rack: Yep! Head up...hook loop into the foam.
5. What is the best way to powder paint the baits with no paint in the line eye? I held the bait by the hook loop to paint. The line loop did have paint on it but it looked nice and there was plenty of room to tie on. However...I don't like paint on the eyes. The wire used in the forms allowed the paint to chip off easily before I cured them so I got a clean eye.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I can see tying up some walleye flies to fish behind that!

I like your thinking Muskygary. I'm eyeing this for some walleye applications too.

These are going to be Killer on Spinners, too.  One of my 2 main thoughts for this one, though, is a Skirt and Plastic, where You would apply a Weedless Jig, less the Weedguard.  VERY Versatile Mold  8)

Other main thought is Worms and similar.

Slight mod and put a blade on it. The wire form will allow.  Almost looks like the creators put a guide line on the mold for it and maybe a SB wire.

I made a bladed jig out of it by cutting the bottom of the line tie loop flush with the head. Put the blade on and squeeze back shut. Took it out to test today. It caught 7 of the 10 bass I caught.

Re: Poison Swingtail - Shakey Head version
« Reply #14 on: 11/03/16 21:47 UTC »
Wishin made a great observation! Just cut the bottom wire flush to the body with a Dremel Cut Off Wheel and you can mount a shakey blade and then squeeze the loop shut no problem!

Super easy Shakey Head Poison Swingtail !
