Damiki Rig
« on: 02/10/17 11:44 UTC »
There is a good article in the FLW site on Damiki Rig fishing.  While reading through the article I noticed a familiar jig head....

The article is at https://www.flwfishing.com/tips/2017-02-08-fishing-the-damiki-rig-in-winter if you want to see the entire piece.

Great article awesome jigs too there are a lot more that DO-IT then we see. And that gets them in the money because they are doing things that are a little different than most.

Good article - although it's amazing what they're calling things when all we see is an erie jig head and a minnow head jig!!

Lol I think now a days each different plastic fished on a jig gets its own name.
I struggle to understand how this is any different than the way most of us fish a jig and plastic!

I agree 100%, Mike.  All I see is a jighead on a 90-degree hook, toting a minnow plastic.  Definitely Classic, but what's all the excitement?  Down here, we often-times throw them 2 at a time (double rigs)....EDIT...and have for decades.

The Damiki looks somewhere between an Erie and a Shad Head.  The posted pic is definitely the Minnow Head.  Sigh.

And, IMO, Ol' Boy should have that closest-in-the-pic rod reworked.  Cork between the Reel Foot and the Blank will "soften the blow", detract from the transfer of vibrations, costing him sensitivity.  Tisk, tisk, tisk.

I heard about that a couple years back because a friend wanted me to make the minnow heads for him for that reason. The article was awesome because it was described to me but not in that detail, got to give Do-it some props for having great designs.

I say we [all here at the Do-It forums] collectively write an article and clarify things a little by indicating that it is not a Damiki rig, its a Do-It rig. lol

I like it Tom. We will just call any jig and plastic the Do-it rig.

I'll go with that Mike. The Do-It rig.

The Do-it Rig.....where pride is always on the line with a Do-It Jig and a Do-It plastic bait. All Do-It. All pride. All anyone needs!

Sorry to hijack your thread Marc.

I watched a lot of it live on-line and that technique makes Midwest Finesse look like power-fishing.  I think I'd go nuts staring at the locator all day like that.

That said, I see that being an option on Sturgeon Bay at times.

Early on in the tournament, it may have been Thursday, I swear there was a guy ripping a blade bait.

It looked like a lot of the elite series boys were fishing that rig this past week.. It seemed like a good number of them said they were using a homemade jig too.. Paul Mueller, who is sponsored by Do-it was one of them... It would be nice to know what his set-up was for the rig.. all that he said on stage, was that it was a homemade jig...

I see most of the guys fishing their plastic baits like live bait. Have we evolved enough that our plastic baits (with scent) make the fish pick them up like a live minnow? Use to be going back to ,the old texas rig; that as soon as you felt a tap you set the hook before they could spit it out. Now with drop shotting etc. you can let them get up close and examine the bait before they hit it.

Marc, there was one guy at the final weigh in that said he was fishing a silver buddy early on.
