First attempts at some jigs
« on: 02/25/17 19:23 UTC »
I used to post about plastics on here a few years ago and then kind of got too busy to make anything really cool and picture worthy.  I just decided to get into pouring lead too and thought I'd post a few of my early attempts at some jigs.

First is my Dirty Jigs "Dill Gill" homage.  Always loved that jig but felt the blue on the bottom of the head was a bit too royal blue for my taste.  So here's my version I made using the Weedless Casting jig.  Pretty sure that's the same mold they use.

I also made up some little finesse footballs with the Aberdeen football mold.

I'm really loving the Poison Tail mold too.

Now it just needs to thaw out so I can try these things out  :)

Those jigs are impressive. I'm thinking the same thing about the thaw out. A couple buddies and I are going next Sunday rain or shine.

Thanks!  I'm really enjoying coming up with skirt combinations.  I think that's my favorite part.

I want to get out so badly but it's not going to happen soon.  January was bitter cold with temps down to -27 and we had about 30" of snow on the ground.  Then February jumped up to 40s and 50s with lots of rain which led to quite the mess.  So the lakes are still frozen, but too sketchy for ice fishing (though I'm not really into it anyway), and the rivers are a raging, flooded mess so I can't even go trout fishing.  I'm going to Sacramento in a week and had a guide booked at Clear Lake, but with all the flooding there they closed the lake.  Oh well, guess I've got another 4-6 weeks of stockpiling jigs, spinnerbaits and plastics  :(

If those are your first jigs then you're a fast learner. Nothing wrong with them. I really like that first one.

Thanks!   Yeah I just got my melting pot on Monday.  I did do a bit of research on here and youtube first though.

I think that first one was my very first jig.  I did cheat a little though and used a Dirty Jigs replacement skirt.  The rest are my blends though.

Very nice!!!!! What color blue did you use in the first jig? I've made my own by blending candy blue with white and clear but it doesn't get to that shade which is what I'm trying to achieve.

He told me in another post it was robin egg blue. But not sure where he gets it from. I'm like you and would like to have some.

Yes it's robins egg.  Sometimes I throw in some powder blue with it to tone it down even more.  I think I got them both off of eBay, though I'm pretty sure Barlows has them too.

All that talk about snow is Shiverin' me Timbers.  It's upwards of 80 degrees here in Sout Louisiana.

I wish it was here except for the flooding it would cause.  I don't think it got above freezing the past two days and everything is covered in snow again.  There's over ten feet of snow in the mountains right now. Oh well, at least it will fill the reservoirs when it melts and I'll get to try out the brush jigs I jus made with all the flooded willows  :)
