Swim Fry Rig???
« on: 02/10/12 12:42 UTC »
I just purchased a set of Swim Fry molds and received them Yesterday. The bait is smaller than what i am used to fishing with so my normal rig will not work. I normally use a 1/8 oz bullet weight pegged to the head of the bait and a Gamakatsu #1 EWG worm hook. My normal fishing technique is the pitch allow time for the bait to fall and slow retrieve. Is there a way to rig the Swim Fry that will allow me to pitch and retrieve it and if so can you share it with me? Maybe even post a pic or 2.

Thanks,
Dennis

Wow. I have been fishing since i was a child but have never jig fished. So I was stumped when I had to start figuring out how to fish with a jig on my own. I never expected to stump the whole forum with my question... I don't feel so silly now. :P

We may be confused here.  Typically any of the small panfish baits are fished on a jighead of a weight between 1/32 to 1/16 oz.  There are three jighead pictures I posted in the Panfish Baits gallery earlier.  Is this what you are aking about?  How to hook the baits in order to fish them?

I have to admit...I thought you were referring to the big multiple bait rigs ....which are illegal
Here in Mn and Wi.

If you are asking how do I rig a single bait...I just use a plain ole crappie jig head on the front. I also found some smaller hook mushroom head jigs online @

I guess what I was asking was is there a special way to rig a jig to pitch it versus vertically jigging it?

I hope not ..or I've been doing it wrong for the last 50 years!

But there are a wide variety of jig heads that do a lot of different things.

On the panfish type baits; not really.  Some people will us a special small weedless head; but many say you loose a lot of Crappie and soft strikes due to the weedguard.

Cool. I've never jig fished as I said before and figured I would ask a few questions before I went out and tried it.

Thanks,
Dennis
