We had one hellacious thunderstorm that lasted from 11:30 last night until 4:30 this morning. Non-stop. 4 to 8 inches of rain locally. I was up at 6 to check the rain gauge and ready my rain monitor, then take a look at the river and stream behind our home. The river was showing just a hint of higher water while the stream looked about normal for having had rain.
At 8:10 Carole and I ran some errands and I took this picture just before leaving. I took this snap from our back yard looking out over the park land on the other side of the stream.

Taken at 9:45 this morning from the same spot in the yard, this is what the park looked like and the water is still coming up fast. Compare the green on the rip rap of the river in the distance in the first picture to the second. That'll give a good idea of how much rise had happened in that short span of time.
Our home and yard are well elevated above the creek and the river's high water mark so we are not in any danger, but this is a great example of how the flood control program the city uses will gather water and move it out of the area in a fast fashion. After seeing how much high water is still flowing in outlying areas of town I don't think the rise is over yet so this day might be a fun one. All the idiots in town will be in the park right behind us watching the water flow and it never ceases to amaze me just how dumb of things they do when the water is wild like this. Seen some very close calls.
